And a really creative title. I just couldn’t come up with a good title for this one… A couple weeks ago, I shared this fabulous desk I bought on Insta-Friday. I fell in love with its shape, an it was made by Sligh, a fabulous company….
I was not so in love with the gross yellow speckled paint finish.
I knew I wanted to simplify it a bit but keep a vintage feel to it. I painted a coat of graphite chalk paint, and then went over that with two coats of old white. I did this so that when I distressed the darker color would show through instead of the yellow. After it dried, I distressed it by hand, and then waxed it with one of my favorite waxes…. Liberon Black Bison Paste Wax. I love this wax because it gives a gorgeous smooth finish, but also smells AMAZING and is non toxic! It’s hard to find a good non-toxic wax that gives such a great finish. I applied it as I normally do, with rags, which I find just as easy if not easier to use than a brush, depending on the piece. After I waxed it I buffed it to a smooth finish. I used a clean rag to buff.
Here it is now in its after glory!
This is one of those “less is more” makeovers… the fresh white and light distressing really helps highlight the shape. I don’t look at it anymore and think, “Well that’s yellow.”
On a side note… We had family photos taken last month by one of our amazingly talented vendors who happens to have a photography business as well, Jalapeno Photography. I hope to organize a post for you, but for now, here are a couple of peeks!
I know every mama thinks this about their kids, but my daughter is the most beautiful little girl I know. π
And this one can melt me with his eyes…. we actually had a dinner date last night.
Those are three of my favorite photos, but I have more to share! Coming soon.
Have a wonderful hump day!
