Hi all! Happy Thursday! I am so excited to share with you today the home of Katie from On the Banks of Squaw Creek. I’ve read her blog so long that I remember when she announced she was pregnant with her second child! She has an awesome farmhouse and is truly living the farm life as you will see. Katie is a sweetheart and her house is full of so many meaningful touches that make it their family’s home. Enjoy!
Hey everyone! I’m Katie and I blog about life On the Banks of Squaw Creek. I’ve followed Cassie’s blog for years, and I share a love of furniture makeovers with her.
My house is a 108 year old farmhouse in central Iowa.
And “farmhouse” isn’t just a term used to describe the style of the house. We live on a large turkey farm. My husband is a 3rd generation turkey farmer and we hope that our boys will be the 4th generation!
We’ve spent 6 years remodeling our house, and have done everything from replacing all the wiring to refinishing the woodwork on the first floor. All along, we’ve tried to preserve some of the historical aspects of the house while making it work for a young family in the 21st century. It has been a labor of love.
The living room is probably my favorite room in the house. The décor truly represents my style, but the room is comfortable and lived in – perfect for all of us.
The vintage turquoise wing-backs are from a used furniture store, and I couldn’t love them more. They were truly a turning point in decorating this house.
On the opposite side of the room, the gallery wall shows off so many things that I love. There’s a little bit of Paris, a little bit of Charleston, a little bit of the prairie, and even a picture of our house when it was first built!
The kitchen was our first remodel project, and it was done on a seriously tight budget. Check out the before pictures (but be prepared! They’re scary!)
These open shelves were created with barn boards from my Great Grandpa’s barn, just a few miles away.
This DIY Pull-Out Pantry isn’t exactly decorative, but it is one of my most popular post. My best friend and I built it BY OURSELVES! and we’re insanely proud of it!
The dining room has undergone some major changes the past couple of years, from this:
The most recent change is that I painted these bookcases, although I’m admittedly not thrilled with the color.
Moving upstairs, I’m going to give you a glimpse into my boys’ room from 2 years ago. I loved the mix of plaids on Adam’s bed – so fitting for a little farm boy!
And one last stop on the tour: The Master Bedroom.
This (super small and hard to photograph) room is sorta vintage glam mixed with comfy & cozy.
I hope you enjoyed my house tour – come over to my blog and I’ll give you a mini farm tour, too!
