Happy Thursday! Hope you are all having a great week- I know it’s a short week, but I am already wanting the weekend.
Anyhow, it’s Thursday and I have yet another amazing home to share with you today! Katja from Shift Ctrl Art is such a creative inspiration to me! I adore her style and seamless blend of modern and vintage, and love her fearlessness when it comes to tackling DIY projects! She’s pretty amazing, and also one of the sweetest and most supportive bloggers I know. Get ready to be blown away!
Thank you Cassie for having me over today! I really appreciate it. I am a big fan of Primitive and Proper and all you have done. I am so in love with your kitchen, your bedroom, your dining room. Well just your whole house!
I have been following along on all the fabulous home tours you have been featuring and I am honored to be among them. Thank you!
Hi! I’m Katja (Catch-ye) and I blog over at Shift Ctrl Art.
We bought our house five years ago and we have been hard at work remodeling and DIY’ing our way to a house that we love!
Both my husband and I are avid DIY’ers. We love to remodel and build furniture and make over spaces in our spare time. We also had help from contractors, structural engineers, plumbers and handymen when needed.
We are both from Denmark and our DIY journey began all the way back in the 90s when we built a house together. (It had my first gallery wall)
We came to the States in 2000 and lived in a ton of rentals before being able to buy our first home here.
During the day, I work part time with graphic design. I design business-to-business content management websites and make brochures and other marketing materials.
The other part of the day, I homeschool our son, B, who is 12. We are currently finishing up 6th grade. Like last year, the last four Friday’s are deemed “End of year cooking Fridays”, where we try out different baking recipes together. We are also learning about political systems and Japanese culture and lots of algebra at the moment.
On my blog Shift Ctrl Art, I mainly blog about our house remodeling, DIY projects, furniture building, crafts and recipes. When I began blogging more routinely a year and a half ago, I thought my blog would be more about just art and digital design. Hence the name. It quickly became about DIY instead.
In our living room, we added built-ins along the TV wall with a fireplace. We also added the window on the right. It goes all the way to the floor. Before it was just a wall which made the living room very dark.
Above, our guest bathroom, which got quite an extensive overhaul when we added a shower.
Below B’s room, which B and I made over last year.
Wall Mario was a math project we did together. How many sheets of each color cardstock do we need to buy for a 5 ft tall Mario. Go!
I dyed his curtains navy blue. Painted hexagons on the rug. Recovered his old IKEA chair with fur fabric, built that wall mounted cubby from wood left over from our deck repair. The Zzz’s above his bed are purely a sound effect!
We built a desk and put up a gallery wall of mostly B’s artwork. We took an art class together for over a year and a half where B drew that eagle among other things. Then we took a break to learn pottery. We plan to go back to art class this summer.
This year, we made over our laundry room nook in the garage complete with chalk board door and clothes pin art.
We are also knee deep in our master bath and bedroom renovation. Last weekend, we finished putting up shelves in the master closet and we just got done red-guarding the shower and tub area and we are now waiting for the installation of counter tops.
In our hallway, we put up wallpaper on Sunday. Paintable, textured wallpaper. I am excited about that. Almost as excited as I am about wearing a haz-mat suit, when I go to spray paint our master closet soon. Ok, maybe a little more excited about the wallpaper.
The rest of our Home Tour
Cassie, thanks so much for letting me hang out here today!
Thank you, Katja, for visiting today and sharing your amazing and personal home with us! I am pretty sure I want to create a big Yoshi somewhere in my house now….
