Happy Sunday! Hope you all have been enjoying your weekend and are ready for some football! We’ve got a family divided here… Chris and Sawyer are pulling for Seattle. Born and raised in Massachusetts, I am rooting for my old home team, New England. And Emmy picked New England because “I am picking what Mom picks.” Good girl. But really, I just hope it’s a good exciting game, and I am ready for loads of awesome commercials.
A Snicker of Magic is actually a book for grade level 3-7, but I loved it! (And let’s be honest, I love tween novels…. Twilight, Hunger Games, anyone?). The nice part for me about the grade level was that it was a quick read that was just easy to enjoy. The story is told through the eyes of 12 year old Felicity Pickle, who’s being raised by her single Mom who we discover is cursed with a “wandering heart”. The family winds up in the once magical town of Midnight Gulch to stay with her Aunt Cleo. While bracing herself for another short stay in a town, ready at any moment to follow her mother’s wandering heart, Felicity starts to set down her own roots and finally makes friends. She begins to learn about the mysterious magical history of Midnight Gulch, and soon becomes engrossed in the tale, as she discovers it’s part of her own family history, and maybe her mother truly is “cursed” by magic with a wandering heart.
I highly recommend this book for parents of elementary and middle schoolers, and really anyone who truly believes in magic, even if it’s just a little snicker of it. Again this is not a book that I would have selected myself, so I am thankful to Carmel for expanding my horizons.
This February, we are welcoming Jessica of Gourley Girl & Guy to our book club! We are excited to have her!
And guess what? It was my turn to select the book for February, and I chose I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You by Courtney Maum. I can’t wait to dive into it this week!
