Hi guys! Sorry for the late night post, but I wanted to get you an update on where we stand with Emmy’s room makeover for the one room challenge now that we are at week 4 (already!!!!!) Have you been checking out all of the participating blogs at Calling It Home? If you haven’t yet, check it out because you will surely be inspired!
Emmy and I traveled this past weekend to Nest Fest, but I’ve tried to get a few more things done since our return. Let’s take a look, shall we?So let’s talk about what’s new since last week, shall we? I am sure the major thing that you notice is the art over the bed was removed and replaced with this awesome macrame hanging from Moss Hound Designs. We found it at Nest Fest and had to have it…. the dip dyed aqua was perfect for this space! This hanging was honestly the first thing that drew me in at Nest Fest, so I waited until it was almost time to go to buy it… I wanted to be patient, but it was the “it” piece, you know?
In the process of starting to clean out the closets in this room, I discovered some vintage syroco gulls I had stashed away. I asked Emmy if she wanted to add them over her bed as well, and she was all for it. (I found the exact same pair here for you).
You might notice some new things around the foot of the bed as well. This vintage trunk has been in our possession for a while and fit the vibe as well as need for stage that my hoarding daughter needs. 😉
The inexpensive pom pom bed skirt from Amazon also arrived and it is indeed white as described and not ivory as its photo makes it look. Hooray! It’s perfect!
On the left side of the bed as you can see, I hung a light, but it’s not the one I originally planned… as it turned out, that one was in need of major rewiring, and was also extremely heavy which made me worry a bit. I happened to already have this green one in my garage and I brought it in and asked Emmy which one she preferred. Both worked in the space, so I let her make the decision, and planned to rewire if that was what she wanted. However, she loved the green, so it’s now hanging next to the bed and over the desk.On the right side of the bed, we’ve brought in some of our porch plants and hung them in their macrame hangers. Emmy wanted lots of plants and greenery in her space. I’ve also brought down her hanging chair for that corner. I’d love to get the stand painted now that I see it in place, but the cold windy weather is here, and it might have to wait until the Spring.
Now, on the wall to the right when you walk in, we had planned on placing the kilim inspired dresser and her settee was going to go into one of the closets as a nook… Well, after measuring I’ve realized the settee won’t quite work inside the closet, so it’s going to go on this wall now, and the dresser has been moved to the closet. The collection of art will go on the wall, and the pillows you see will go on the settee. How fabulous and fun are these serape pillows from Del Mex? She’s had the matryoshka clock for a while, and it originally came from Gala Studio.Another huge addition although you may not have noticed is the bamboo blinds from Blindster are up! They arrived while I was away, and I hung them Monday. We chose the Hatteras Carmel which is in the rest of our bedrooms and living room.
Originally, I bought these for the living room because after a huge search they were the most affordable custom sized bamboo blinds out there. I was so thrilled with them that I reached out to Blindster and am thankful to them for providing me with the blinds for this space. They are one of those details that make a huge difference!
Another item that arrived while we were gone was the pom pom curtains from Hayneedle, and I recycled the curtain rods that had been hanging over the windows and mounted them inside the closets so that they would be out of sight. (PS- After reading Heather’s post about her own pom pom curtains, I am really happy I found these for a great deal and didn’t have to do any sewing! But mega props to her for DIYing it!)
The pom poms are the perfect color, and they offer just enough detail to plain white panels.I also brought down the papier mache masks that Emmy made at an art camp and hung those between the doors. I realize that the mouse is awkwardly place but it’s actually hiding some awkwardly placed cable and power outlets.
And now, since I’ve only shown you mostly pretty… here’s a little dose of reality! These closets have been my craft closet and our coat closet and random storage these last 5 years. There’s been quite a bit of clean up going on and there is so much more to still go as you can see below.
Oh, and one more thing you may have noticed is that I brought the dollhouse downstairs… I am not sure if it will stay where it sits, but it’s in the room at least. 😉 So what is there left to do still? Well, I thought I’d show you on the little “Accomplish” notepad sitting on the desk. For “Maybe Never” I considered “keeping the room clean” which will be up to Emmy, of course, but I am going to hang onto hope for right now, OK?
I’ve put together a list of some of the items for you to shop from this post if you are interested. You can find it at the very bottom of this post.
