With less than 5 weeks until baby boy arrives, I have had a serious fire under my rear and am getting all sorts of things done around the house. Major thanks to Chris who has been a real trooper ever since I presented him with a giant list of all the things we needed to do before baby arrival. I’ve been so busy getting things done that I’ve neglected the blog- apologies for that! We’ve been redoing the nursery closet, and I wallpapered that this weekend… can not wait to share! We’ve also been putting a little band-aid on our atrocious upstairs bathroom by painting every possible surface and adding wood shelving. The good news is I should have lots to share in the coming months! Today I am going to give you nursery progress: Babyletto crib as well as the other little touches that make his crib special and peaceful. (This post does contain affiliate links.)
First of all, I want to mention that we are so thankful because my parents wanted to give us the crib and mattress as a gift. The crib that I had chosen was the Babyletto Modo in gray. I loved the modern lines of this crib. It’s pretty much always $279, and never goes on sale, so one day a few weeks ago I happened to notice that the gray only was $30 off at Amazon! (It isn’t at the moment anymore- sorry!) and called my mom to let her know so they could save a little money on it. This crib is a conversion crib and comes with the conversion rail- no extra purchase needed as is the case with some on the market. It should last him well into the toddler years!
They also went ahead and ordered the mattress that day as well. Because we were going with a conversion crib, and I wanted this space to be as safe as possible, we went with the Colgate Eco Classica 2 which offers dual firmness (firmer on one side for infants, and a little softer on the other for toddlers). This mattress is also eco-friendlier and has an organic cotton cover.
Of course, the fun part was getting the crib put together and adding the fun sheets! Chris put the crib together and it was rather simple, certainly easier than the cribs we had 12 years ago for Sawyer and Emmy! After Christmas, I had purchased 3 crib sheets on sale at Anthropologie: clouds, narwhals, and maritime which features fish in shades of blue, gray and purple and can be seen on the mattress here.
Aren’t the fish fun? I loved the colors and the fun pattern.
The blanket hanging on the crib was a recent gift from one of my talented and sweet friends at Sweet Clover, Leighann, who owns the vintage etsy shop, The Fishbone Bride, where she sells so many unique finds. She created it using an aqua feather fabric as the backing, and an adorable black and white fox flannel on the front.
Do you see that little brown bear on the crib? He might be the neatest little invention ever! I had already purchased a white noise machine, but when the people at Wavhello reached out to see if I’d like one of their Soundbub portable white noise machines for baby, I said yes as soon as I saw what they were! These guys are rechargeable, portable, and safe for infants to touch and chew on. It will be perfect on the crib, yet can travel with us anywhere, even on the stroller! When Sawyer was a baby he had that Fisher Price light up aquarium that played music. When he’d wake in the middle of the night, we would hear the music play. He was able to turn it on himself and get back to sleep with his music playing, and I am sure this bear will do just that for this baby. This machine also comes in gray owl or white bunny and can be synced to blue tooth. Isn’t he cute? All baby has to do is press on his stomach to get him to play, or you can turn it on with a timer.
This room is really coming along and, dare I say, almost done? The feature that seems to be the most popular is that little book nook to the right of the crib. I built that back when this was Emmy’s room using the method found here. It’s a truly simple DIY with a big impact and perfect for odd nooks. I’m actually repeating this in our bathroom at the moment. For the nursery, I simply repainted the backing in navy.
We still have some small touches to make to what I’ve shown you so far. That white sideboard that will be the changing table, for instance, needs a changing pad still.
I haven’t decided if the window will get curtains or if it will just feature the bamboo blinds. I’ve decided against curtains on the closet since the wallpaper needs to be seen by the world. 😉 I will probably wait to see how baby sleeps in the room and then decide. It doesn’t actually get a ton of light as it’s facing north, and only has the one window which sits oddly in the corner adjacent to the closet.
I’m really looking forward to unveiling the closet area, or at least progress soon. The wallpaper we went with makes my heart sing and I can’t wait to share it with you! Thanks for checking out our progress today.
