Furniture Makeover: Distressed Teal Vintage Double Dresser

I mentioned the other day that I was single momming it this week, our busiest week of the summer.  Friends, the struggle is real, but we are getting through!  I just got Wilder down for a little nap and am praying he allows me time to finish this post for you guys.  With the Sweet Clover sale this coming weekend, I’ve got another piece I painted for the event with today’s furniture makeover: distressed teal vintage double dresser. (You can find all the supplies used at the bottom of this post; these are affiliate links).

I found this dresser via my local facebook marketplace.  The seller actually painted furniture as well but said this one just needed too much work for  her.  I didn’t think it was that bad, to be honest!  It was structurally sound, but just had some peeling veneer along the bottom.

Because I was going for a worn and distressed look for this piece, I simply removed all of the loose veneer, and let it be a little rough on the bottom.  Once that was removed, I removed the hardware, and sanded the piece all over with my orbital sander, and hand sanding in the little grooves and spaces the orbital couldn’t reach.  Once it was sanded all over, I wiped it clean with a damp rag and let it dry.

I loved the teal color from my midcentury dresser so much and knew it would suit this piece beautifully.  Luckily I had mixed plenty.  I applied two coats which was all it needed.

After the paint dried, I once again grabbed my orbital sander and distressed all of the edges of this piece by lightly applying the sander.  I did have to hand distress some areas well.  Once that was done, I once again wiped it clean with a damp rag and allowed it to dry.

I applied a coat of Black Bison wax which I love for its sheen and hard finish, allowing about 15 minutes to dry before I buffed it with a rag.

After buffing, I put the hardware back in place and was done!

Just as with the black and wood midcentury dresser I showed you on Monday, before we loaded it up to take it to Sweet Clover I had an “Oh crap I need a photo” moment and thus these are not the best photos of this piece.

Here you can see the area where the veneer had peeled and how I just sort of make it part of the worn and distressed look.

I seriously am in love with this color, so expect a lot of pieces coming at you in moody teal this fall.  The hardware really stands out against it.

This piece will be available this weekend at Sweet Clover in Frederick, MD.  I hope to share photos of our space with you as well this week.  It might be my favorite look yet!

If you’re local to Maryland, NOVA, DC, we’d love to see you this weekend at Sweet Clover, open August 17-19.

That is the coolest color! I’m so drawn to that type of green lately.
