Happy Friday, friends! I hope wherever you were this week, that you were safe and warm… what a cold week for the country it has been! I’ve mentioned a couple of times here now that we are on a very tight budget with our new house. While the area we have moved to is comparable to where we lived before as far as real estate prices go, we are trying to save money for renovations. Plus, we now have 3 kids, and with a baby I have much less time to devote to money-making ventures of my own. We’re a one-income family of 5 people and 2 dogs with a new house full of projects, but just because we have limited funds doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice style. I’ve been scouring the internet for the best deals on several new items for this house, and I decided that I should start sharing my favorite finds with you. I can’t tell you that budget find Friday will be here every week, because I have to be honest with myself about my limited time, but I can tell you that I will most definitely be passing on my deals to you whenever I can. Now let’s kick off this series with Budget Find Friday: $75 Dining Room Chandelier. This post contains affiliate links.
That’s my dining room as it currently looks, but let’s take a look at where it was just a few days prior. Also note that these are pretty poor quality photos but they get the point across.
The light fixture that was here when we moved in was nickel, which is pretty much my least favorite fixture finish. It was contemporary in a way that didn’t suit my style, and it was hung waaaaay too low. Also note that I hung the horse too high the first time, as seen in the image above. Just saying I am not judging the light being too low or whoever hung it… we all make mistakes like that, but we have to fix them.
I posted it on my local facebook marketplace for free and it was soon out of my house and into the home of someone who would appreciate it more.
Now, our plan for our dining room is to build a banquette along the back wall where the window is, and when that happens, the fixture will have to shift back. With that in mind, I went to work looking for something that would suit the future plans. At first I thought I wanted a simple oversized black pendant, much like the large Ikea one I am sure you have seen everywhere. I love that light, but I was afraid it would block the view out the window too much. I decided to search for something that might have an airier and less intrusive feel. I stumbled across this beautiful modern light from Home Depot of all places, and was shocked to see it was less than $75, and that was it’s regular non-sale price!
This light ticked my boxes… it was light and airy in feel, a bid midcentury modern in style, was predominantly black, but helps bring in a bit of gold, and was well within my budget. It also has an adjustable hang, and the actual light cones are adjustable as well. Now that we’ve been using it for a week, I can tell you that it gives the perfect light at night for a dining room. I am so happy with this purchase, and had to share it with you. Looking from the kitchen into the dining room used to make me cringe a bit, but now with this new light, the view actually makes me smile.
This past week I’ve been on the hunt for bathroom lighting, mirrors, and faucets…. wish me luck that I will soon have some great finds to share with you. Have a great weekend!
