Updated Note on December 27th, 2010:
This post was by far my most popular and one of my best projects this past year. I look at this piece as the one that made this blog. I started this blog way before I really understood what a blog was, and how to even use it. Around the time I posted this piece was around the time that I figured out the whole bloggy network and community. I think this might be one of the first pieces I linked up to parties, and it was received with overwhelming response, and from then on, I was hooked! So thank you to everyone who ever stopped by this blog to see this piece, and maybe became a follower, or just left me a sweet comment. You’ve made me smile, and you’ve made me keep on trucking! Looking forward to 2011!
Lately, I am really into these French pieces and trying new things on them, like this chalkboard paint sideboard I recently did. This time, it’s a similarly shaped sideboard, of which naturally I forgot to take a “before” shot. So I will break down the process for you after that!
Here it is after the top was partially stripped and the base was primed.
And here is phase 2 (well, really 3!). Here you can see that the top was thoroughly sanded after it has been stripped so it was down to the bare wood. The base had been painted Sherwin Williams’ Rapture Blue, which was a little bright at the time, but I had plans!
Here it is now!
The top was stained in Minwax’s Provincial (how fitting!), and the body was distressed and then stained with the same stain. The top was also given a tung oil finish to keep it low luster. I love it and am so happy with how the color turned out, though I admittedly had a moment of self doubt once the first coat of paint was on!
