Battling Bad Behavior & A Glimpse into Emmy’s Room

This is a different kind of post for me today.  In general, I consider myself to be lucky to have two very spirited, energetic, and social children.  However, with all of the changes our family has gone through over the last 6 months, Sawyer has had some behavioral issues at school over the last month.  We are doing our best to modify his behavior with positive reinforcement.  Here is a little teaser of what we are up to to fix it…

For all the details head on over to the DIY Club!

In other news, I thought I would share a couple glimpses of Emmy’s room with you.  I plan to paint it this Spring in Benjamin Moore’s Palladian Blue seen here:
  Benjamin Moore HC-144 Palladian Blue

In the meantime, I have been working on some other things in her room and thought I would share what I can.  I also redid a piece that I can’t share until Annapolis Home comes out in March/April.  I wish I could!!!
Last weekend I hit the outlets and found a fabulous set (the LAST set) of papier mache antlers at the Pottery Barn outlet.  They were $19.99 plus an additional 20 percent off.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do above Emmy’s bed yet, but when I saw those, I knew they were perfect.  And fake, which is all I can do when it comes to antlers.  I had a large white frame in my stash that was just the right size to frame them out.

Also, here is a little glimpse of a table I redid a couple summers ago that fits perfectly as her nightstand.

The room is coming along and I am really loving it!  It is not at all what I had originally planned, but at least that gave us a jumping off point.  Then the room just took a life of its own, and I can’t wait to see it all complete!

Oh boy I don’t look forward to disciplining an older child, I’m sure my mother will be right and I’ll get paid back for all the crap I did 🙂 My 2 year old is already super willful! I LOVE the antler and what a great buy!!

I love the system you are using with your son. Definitely bookmarking that and saving that one for a later date. 🙂 I am so excited you found a pair of antlers at pottery barn…..and for that price. What a great deal! Can’t wait to see Emmy’s room…that wall color is beautiful.

Beautiful color, can’t wait to see it on the walls! I know her room is going to be so special due to your super talents. Best of luck with the behavior mod. It happens with all of us at one point or another. I’m headed over to check out your system next!

Love that bedspread! I bet it’s going to look so pretty. Sweet little Sawyer, just be consistent with your rules and punishments. Also listen to him about why he feels angry. Tell him it’s ok to be angry but not to treat others unkindly.

The room is looking grand, the bedspread, the nightstand and the antlers, wow!
Do you seem to notice that the behavior issues are cyclical? At least they are at our house, things will be going great for a while and then it’s time for child a or b or maybe c to have some issues. Then we’re good for a while and then child xyz has issues. Anyways, heading over to check it out!

Emmy’s bedspread is gorgeous–can’t wait to see the reveal! And I’m totally borrowing your good behavior system for Jacob. 🙂 He’s been rather full of himself at school lately with the sillies and being a cut-up…

Good for yall for getting on him about it right away. It’s best to nip it in the bud when they are young.

We went through that with my oldest. That’s how we started Fun Fridays. But he needed a more-day-to-day reward. So we would give him “simple treats” like he got to pick what to eat for breakfast or what show to put on, etc.

Good luck, girl. Wish I was there to discuss these things with you over a glass of wine in your pretty living room with the fireplace going! 🙂

Can’t wait to see the rest of Emmy’s room! I like the system you’ve come up with for your son. I wouldn’t be too worried about him talking in class, it could be worse…he could be hitting kids. The bright side is he’s trying to make new friends!

This is SUCH a cool girls’ room! I love that you put antlers in there. And Palladian blue is a great color in a girls room too — I’m 24 and I have a similar shade of blue in my room right now 🙂
