Beachy Blue Chest

Yay it’s Friday!!!  Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend?  I am headed to the school’s Spring Fling tonight with the kiddos- it’s like a carnival right at the school!  After that I am headed out to celebrate my neighbor’s birthday (which she happens to share with me dad!).  Tomorrow holds soccer, yard saling, and a twilight 5k for me followed of course by an early Cinco De Mayo celebration, and Sunday lunch with my parents and family to celebrate my dad’s birthday!  When we return, the kids are going to help me make a dessert for teacher appreciation luncheon… I am thinking blueberry crisp or raspberry coconut bars, unless anyone has a better idea?

Speaking of yard saling, last week my good friend and fellow barn vendor Traer visited to hit the flea market and then some yard sales. At one of the yard sales, I scored this dresser for a great price.  It was a great price and still there because it was in two pieces…. thus it being upside down in the picture as I had just put it back together and was letting the glue dry.

Pin

This dresser had some old white paint, and the original hardware was pretty icky.

Pin

I used my favorite filler, Wunderfil, from Rockler, to fill the extra holes.  I filled, let dry, sanded, and repeated one more time.

Pin

This is the only filler I use now as it gives the smoothest finish I have found and dries rather quickly.  Once that was all done, I gave the piece a light sanding all over.  The white paint was chipping off in some areas, but I wanted to preserve it as much as possible so that when I distressed the white would peek through.
I mixed up my own color on this one, using Provence and Duck Egg Annie Sloan chalk paint and Alaska Tundra from CeCe Caldwell.  The result was a gorgeous minty aqua.  I applied two coats, allowed it to dry, and then distressed with sandpaper.  I waxed it with a clear wax, buffed it, and added some pretty new sparkly knobs.  Here it is now…. ready for a beach cottage somewhere!

Love the white peeping through, and it does look very beachy. I’ve never seen a set of drawers like that here, wish I did though!

What a busy weekend you have planned, sounds fun though. What does a Cinco De Mayo celebration involve for you? The only time I’ve ever heard of that is on Dora lol but I’ve not taken any notice of the reason for the celebration!

My weekend has started well…Friday night and I’m on my second Bourbon and Coke 😉 Tomorrow morning I am taking the kids to a church fair and hoping to find some junky bargains for me 🙂 Then chores at home in the afternoon, getting ready for my parents’ arrival on Monday (very excited about that!). Might hopefully fit a bit of painting in, we are stuck at home Sunday as the roads are closed due to a large Ironman event held in our town.

    Have a good one!
    xx Karen

Ah.mazing. Such an awesome color. Where do you get all the knobs?

I’m playing with waxes on my practice board….and having no success. It seems I either use too much or not enough or the dang brush sheds. And what’s with Annie Sloan wax???? Wait 24 hours before buffing??? Um, life’s too short.
