Yay it’s Friday!!! Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? I am headed to the school’s Spring Fling tonight with the kiddos- it’s like a carnival right at the school! After that I am headed out to celebrate my neighbor’s birthday (which she happens to share with me dad!). Tomorrow holds soccer, yard saling, and a twilight 5k for me followed of course by an early Cinco De Mayo celebration, and Sunday lunch with my parents and family to celebrate my dad’s birthday! When we return, the kids are going to help me make a dessert for teacher appreciation luncheon… I am thinking blueberry crisp or raspberry coconut bars, unless anyone has a better idea?
Speaking of yard saling, last week my good friend and fellow barn vendor Traer visited to hit the flea market and then some yard sales. At one of the yard sales, I scored this dresser for a great price. It was a great price and still there because it was in two pieces…. thus it being upside down in the picture as I had just put it back together and was letting the glue dry.
This dresser had some old white paint, and the original hardware was pretty icky.
I used my favorite filler, Wunderfil, from Rockler, to fill the extra holes. I filled, let dry, sanded, and repeated one more time.
This is the only filler I use now as it gives the smoothest finish I have found and dries rather quickly. Once that was all done, I gave the piece a light sanding all over. The white paint was chipping off in some areas, but I wanted to preserve it as much as possible so that when I distressed the white would peek through.
I mixed up my own color on this one, using Provence and Duck Egg Annie Sloan chalk paint and Alaska Tundra from CeCe Caldwell. The result was a gorgeous minty aqua. I applied two coats, allowed it to dry, and then distressed with sandpaper. I waxed it with a clear wax, buffed it, and added some pretty new sparkly knobs. Here it is now…. ready for a beach cottage somewhere!
Something about these beachy looking “pretty” pieces always makes my heart sing. I just love them!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!
