Hey hey hey, it’s Wednesday and summer and the days are flying by…. The time I have to write photograph, and edit lately is so limited so although you might not see me here as often, know that I am alive, working on projects, playing and crafting with my kiddos, running Sweet Clover, running on my legs but not quite like the wind, reading, watching movies, eating ice cream…. and so much more! We’ve been keeping gleefully busy and I have no regrets; we only have one more month of summer and I plan to continue soaking it in. One of the projects I have completed this summer is this beachy blue global inspired vintage dresser with greek key hardware. Say that 10 times fast.
Now before you get mad at me for painting it, let me tell you the base, top, sides, frame…. a weird oak that didn’t mirror the gorgeous drawer fronts. I didn’t want a two toned look for this piece, so decided to go for a sort of global blue look inspired somewhat by my own dresser as well as inspiration for my own master bedroom update.
I removed the hardware, and got to work sanding with my orbital sander and 180 grit paper. For the color, I didn’t have exactly what I wanted so I combined General Finishes Klein Blue and Patina Green and ended up coming up with something super similar to their Corinth Blue, a vibrant turquoise. I applied two coats, and then lightly distressed all of the edges. With a clean rag, I then applied General Finishes satin finishing wax, and allowed it to dry for about 15 minutes. Once it was dry, I buffed with another clean rag in a circular motion to create a slight sheen and harder finish. Finally, I put the original hardware back in place. I brought it to Sweet Clover for our July sale this past weekend.
This dresser will be at our August sale and will hopefully make it into its new home at that time! When Sarah and I restage for this coming sale, we may only move it a whopping 5 feet….. it’s that heavy!!!!
Well, I am off to chop all my hair off and I can’t wait! I was inspired by Rachel from Maybe Matilda... she always looks fab, but her recent haircut left me itching to chop even more off. Enjoy your hump day!
