Because a Girl Can Never Have Enough Owls (and other thrifty finds)

Yesterday Emmy had gymnastics.  The class lasts 1 hour and I can drop her off or stay if I wish.  She prefers for me to go run errands… I think she gets more nervous with me watching her!  I was like that as a child, too.  So I had an hour on my hands and no plans… What to do?  Where to go?  Goodwill of course!  i hadn’t been out thrifting in quite some time since I have been getting orders completed, so I was excited for the opportunity to go!
At Goodwill I found this table for $12, and this old shelf for $12.50.  I love its chippy green paint and can see this filled with pots on a porch.  I am going to add a p;oy to it to prevent any more paint from chipping, and then it will travel to Lucketts with me in May.

I couldn’t take the bookcase with me because I had to go back and get Emmy, but they bent the rules and let me come back and get it today.  When I was finished there, I headed to the Salvation Army to scope out anything worth coming back for today (when furniture is 30 percent off).  Um, yes please.  I found this dresser and mirror for 64.99 before the disccount.  And when I arrived today it was there, and just waiting for me to take it home.  I love the details and hardware on this one!

While there, I also found this guy for 99 cents!   He is sitting on a cabinet near my kitchen. (I am considering repainting the cabinet, thus all the paint chips!)

When I went back to Goodwill to get my shelf, I also found these guys…. lots of owls!  Not my colors, but I can take them to Lucketts and share! 🙂  But apparently Goodwill is onto the owl trend, and their prices were a little higher than I would have liked.  Oh, and check out the squirrel bookends.  I had seen them there before and I can’t tell you why, but they won me over!

And lastly, I have a sickness… for the first time today I typed owl into my craigslist search.  And look what I found for $50.  I am so tempted to buy them and paint them white.  But I have lamps.  But they are so cute.  But I have lamps.  I need to seek help.

I also leave it and go back the next day if I cannot stop thinking about the item! 🙂 Love the lamps…you could always buy them, paint them and sell one to cover your costs! I bet you have a blog follower or 2 that would buy it!

Great dresser! I think you ought to get the owl lamps. They would look fun painted white with a great shade. Maybe they would take less than $50. You had a productive treasure hunt! I noticed my Goodwill has raised thier prices. I still love it though!

Look at all the Owl’s…. I have one on my upper deck to keep the crows away.
The first table is just like two my mom had in her house for years. They are now in my daughters home, wonder if I can steal them?
I remember the days when I’d drop my kids off for lessons and they made me go too! Do your kids make you drop them off at the corner of the school? (and I drove a good car).. Can’t be seen with your mom!
    Nice finds.

    Cassie,

You got a lot accomplished in an hour. It takes me that long to decide where I’m going. Cute that Emmy doesn’t want you to watch. I was like that, too. That shelf was an awesome find! Can’t wait to see what you do with the rest! The owls are fun! I know what you mean about the pricing. Do they have antique or Ebay dealers working in the back? LOL Take care 🙂

I have a feeling we would be very dangerous shopping together! And so funny because me really good friend has a serious owl fetish too! I tend towards dragons, lizards, snakes, spiders, insects and oddly enough parrots. Also, very thought provoking comment you left on my Color Recall post…I wonder too!

Can’t wait to see what you do with everything. By the way, offer them $30 for the owl lamps. You know you want them! And if you can’t end up using them, I bet you could sell them for a good price once they are sprayed white and have cute lampshades…..
