I am a little behind this month and owe you a review of Bright Side by Kim Holden. This book was recommended to me by a friend, so I thought I would give it a go.
I have to admit that it started off very slowly for me, and I had a hard time getting past the overuse of the word “Dude”. I was stressing out that I had picked a book for our blogger book club that wasn’t going to turn out to be very good. But because a good friend whose opinion I trust had recommended it, I kept on pushing through. And I am glad I did, because in the end it only took me three days to get through, and I loved it! It’s the sweet story of college freshman, Kate Sedgwick, who we understand is gorgeous, secretly talented at so many things, and is a complete optimist, which gained her the nickname “Bright Side”. Kate’s inner circle consists of just a few close friends, her best friend Gus, and new love, Keller Banks; and none of them know the devastating secret she harbors. Of course, neither do we until a certain point in the novel, and from that moment on, I couldn’t put this book down! I knew it was going to end sadly, but I kept reading in hopes that it wouldn’t. So yes, this book will make you cry, has a sad ending, but if you look on the bright side, you will see the beauty in the ending as well.
For this month, Katie selected Home Is Where My People Are: The Roads That Lead Us to Where We Belong by blogger Sophie Hudson. This will be a nice diversion from the typical mysterious fiction I normally select and gravitate towards. And the cover sure is cute…
Be sure to check out the reviews of Bright Side from my fellow blogger book clubbers!
