Blogger Stylin Home Tour Fall Edition: My Porch and Kitchen

It’s officially my favorite time of year- FALL!  And I am honored to be taking part in Lindsay from  The White Buffalo Styling Co.’s Blogger Stylin’ Home Tour Fall Edition!

graphicIf you are stopping by from The Thriftress, welcome!  Don’t you just love her arm woven wall hanging!  I think I might have her convinced to make me one….  She happens to be my business partner and bestie!

the-thriftress

I was lucky enough to be part of this tour last year as well (click here to see my modern and fresh tour from 2013); I try to change my seasonal decor every year, as I love to do different things and keep myself from getting bored.
BSHT Fall Pin

Today I want to share with you what I’ve done to bring Fall into our kitchen and to our porch.  The porch was one of the major draws of this house when we purchased it in 2011.  It’s large and has a great view of the valley (we live on a hill).  FYI we keep those partly lights up year round because we are always in the mood to party.

BSHT Porch View

One day I would love to completely change the whole exterior color scheme but that’s not going to happen any time soon…. yellow and brown are not quite me.

Anyhow, our front entry is one of my favorite spaces to decorate, even though we don’t really use this door very much (most people enter through the side door).  I simply added a corn husk wreath from Homegoods several years back.  We added a couple of pale pumpkins, and mums.

BSHT Porch Entry

Last year I used crates, and this year I used bushel baskets and metal buckets as planters.

BSHT Porch Bench

Emmy was helping me spruce up the porch, and wanted to find a place for this black owl, so we stuck him in the wreath.

BSHT Owl in Wreath

Next to the door is a vintage buffet that I removed the doors from and use as a potting bench.  I added some more black owls and a vintage owl painting.  I hung a set of antlers above to add a rustic touch.  And as you can see, my fiddle leaf fig is still outside where it has been all summer….. probably time to bring that in! The little pink you see is Emmy’s pink pig watering can. 🙂

BSHT Potting Bench 2

This birdcage was a gift from my parents and it is usually inside, but I wanted to bring it out for the Fall.

BSHT Potting Bench

BSHT Potting Bench 3The side door is the one guests most commonly use to enter our house, so I gave that area some Fall love as well!  I hung a vintage needlepoint that is sort of quirky and fun next to the door.  (And these lanterns…. oh I know they are pitiful!  They’re begging to be replaced- the best part is this one is slightly crooked.)

BSHT Hello 2To the left of the door I hung a chalkboard on my vintage ladder and added some mums and unusable firewood- it’s at least good for outdoor decor!

BSHT Hello

We also have a little seating area near the door- the adirondack chairs were given to me through freecycle and need some major love (next Spring!).

BSHT Porch View 2The trunk was a flea market find, and the swan planters were given to me by Sarah (who led you hear through the hop!).  Aren’t they lovely!  And do you see how the lemon balm plant is so small?  It was large, and then I realized I hadn’t watered it all summer in a couple days.  So I revived it…. luckily I do a better job with keeping children alive.

BSHT Porch Swans

On the other end of the porch is our favorite place to hang out and have dinner when the nights are cool but not too cold!  The table is an antique library table, and the chairs are vintage church chairs I painted with milk paint.  The bench was custom built from barn wood before I ever blogged, way back when.BSHT Porch Table

I’ve set the table using a vintage plaid blanket, my every day dishes, and some other touches.

BSHT Table 4

BSHT Porch Table 3

Just imagine how pretty this will look when those leaves start turning!  I love the warmth of Fall colors paired with the cool blues and grays.  I crave Fall days taking walks, stepping on crispy leaves, and gazing at bright oranges against a gray sky…. my favorite!BSHT Table 5

I made the “eat cake” slice a couple years back for Emmy’s woodland birthday party, and I reuse it all the time!   It’s perfect for this Fall table.  The owl glasses were a birthday gift from one of my very best friends- Sawyer’s godmother.

BSHT Porch Table Eat CakeThe plates are all from Ikea, and the bowls are a mix from West Elm and Relish Decor.

BSHT Porch Table 2 BowlsWe also have a buffet on the porch- I painted it a couple years back as well, and just loved it so decided to keep it.  It actually stores the kids outdoor toys, bug spray, and more!

BSHT Table 2

I’ve added some Fall accessories for now- a vintage bushel basket top, a bull skull, an old wooden tool box, a hydrangea (also a gift from Sarah!), a black owl, and a black horse post topper I found recently.

BSHT Porch Buffet

We have one more outdoor area I’d like to show you before we head inside to the kitchen.  I’ve been keeping a secret- we built a fire pit this past Spring and I never shared it.  It was a simple sacked paver type of build and we used tree stumps as seating.  We love to hang out on cool nights, enjoying roasted marshmallows which I think pair perfectly with wine.

BSHT House View with Fire Pit

This past summer we enjoyed several night in this very spot, watching fireflies and bats, and looking at the stars.  As Fall enters, the days get shorter and night time skies appear sooner…. I am looking forward to many early Fall nights spent around the fire.BSHT Fire Pit

These stumps are the perfect rustic seats for our family of four.  The dogs like to join us as well and sit at our feet in the glow of the fire.
BSHT Fire Pit Stumps

So there’s my hidden little secret spot….

Now let’s head inside to see one of my favorite spaces, our kitchen.

BSHT Kitchen 10

This year the entire inside of the house was Fall-ified with simple rustic and natural touches.   In the image above, you can see a glimpse of the door guests enter through, so the kitchen makes the first impression, and I want it to feel warm and inviting and in season! I always like to set up a little seasonal vignette on our island.  We spend a lot of time there eating, doing homework, etc…. so it’s nice to have a happy Fall reminder.

I added a pair of antlers I painted white and gold last year, a brass ram I bartered with Sarah for, a thrifted squirrel and tree vase I painted white years ago, feathers, a brass candlestick, and a little white pumpkin.

BSHT Kitchen 1Isn’t this brass ram just the sexiest?  And all I had to give Sarah was an ironstone butter dish, and he was mine.

BSHT Kitchen 2

Also on the island, we keep a brass and metal tic tac toe set I found at a yard sale.  The kids and I love to kill time playing before we head to the bus stop.

BSHT Kitchen 3The other space in the kitchen that I like to add a little taste of Fall to is the open shelving.

BSHT Kitchen 11

As you can see, I love blues!  Again, I wanted to keep it light on the seasonal decor, so opted to just add a few more woodland animals as well as little white pumpkins.

The fox cookie jar always stays in place and hold the dogs’ treats.BSHT Kitchen 6

My fox crock also is a permanent fixture on the shelves, but he’s got some buddies- vintage squirrel salt and pepper shakers that come out to play in the Fall.
BSHT Kitchen 5 And I also brought out this white owl and silvery deer to join the bunch.  It’s a woodland party on my shelves!BSHT Kitchen 4This is one of my favorite spaces of the house- I love the colors and love the openness.

BSHT Kitchen 11
BSHT Kitchen 13FYI I stood on a dining room bentwood chair while I took the pictures of the shelving… Catcher was very curious as to what I was doing on the chair and I had to share this photo with you!  Oh how I love that sweet face!

bshtcatcherThank you so much for taking this tour of my Fall porch and kitchen!

SO so pretty. I adore that you just put hints of fall onto your kitchen shelves. Love that cookie jar!
And I wish I’d have such a big porch. The blue decor on the table for fall is different and gorgeous!

My friend gave him to me as a thank you gift for dogsitting. My open shelves are still just a vague plan, though, so mine doesn’t have nearly as great of a place to hang out.

Your outside spaces are what really spoke to me this year – maybe because I feel outdoor living fading so fast this time of year and the winter is looooooong here. I think I would eat meals outside on your porch until my fingertips were too cold to move – such a warm, festive space. And OF COURSE marshmallows and wine pair beautifully. Any sommelier will tell you so.
