Did you hear the news? It officially became Fall this week- my favorite time of year! Growing up in New England, I have fond memories of walking in rustling leaves, apple picking, and watching as the maple tree outside Mr. Marshall’s social studies class window turned beautiful fiery shades of red, orange and yellow. This season always brings me back to my spiritual roots and gives me a sense of peace, and my home reflects that warm and cozy tranquility. I am excited to be a part of Lindsay’s Blogger Stylin’ Home Tour Fall Edition again this year. Make sure to head to her blog, The White Buffalo Styling Co, to take her home tour and start at the very beginning. And if you are stopping by from the Makerista, welcome! Both Gwen and her home are strikingly beautiful and stylish!
Today we are going to head inside my cozy cape cod that I share with my awesomely supportive husband Chris, my crazy kiddos- Sawyer and Emerson, and our two dogs, Jake and Catcher. Catcher is actually a bit of a camera hog, so he’ll be making several cameos on our tour today. This year, I carried a warm and earthy vibe with added touches of blues and greens from the Fall porch tour throughout the inside.
We are going to start out in the living room, where we unwind and watch movies as a family. When the nights get colder, that authentic Antiques sign heads to storage and we use the fire place to warm up.
In the living room, I decorated out mantle for Fall with fringe I found at a thrift shop, some muted pumpkins, vintage books, and accessories that I already had on hand. I loved Lindsay’s own fringe mantle she did and was inspired by that when I found mine.
On the left side of the mantle I stacked vintage books in blues and greens, a deer I had on hand, and layered in my dipped and stripped log candlesticks. I added teal hand dipped candles I found at a new local shop, The Robin’s Nest.
On the right hand side, I stacked more books, another candlestick, and one of my favorite finds, a white porcelain vintage glove form. The book with the feather cover is a vintage Audubon book I found at a yard sale.
And of course on the hearth, I had to bring in some pumpkins, and a shiny disco ball.
Everything else in the living room stayed pretty much the same; of course I added my recent thrift find, the tribal bear, to the coffee table.
And last week while I was away, one of my very best friends gifted me this gray and white aztec look blanket that was perfect for my vintage blue velvet sofa.
Oh, and on the sofa across from it, I pulled my buffalo check pillows out of storage for the season! (And I am happy to say I still have a lot of plants living on my industrial pipe shelves– yay, me!)
From the living room we pass through the entry hall, leading to the dining room. Our entry hall is on the small side, but we’ve created a cedar planked mudroom in a closet to give us a little more space and more of an open feel.
The “mudroom” is perfect for storing our shoes and accessories. I added a hand drawn vessel (a gift from one of my closest friends) filled with dried hydrangeas for a touch of Fall.
The live edge shelf serves as a quick catch all when you walk in our front door. Feathers and hydrangeas ring in the season.
Opposite this wall is our front door, surrounded by a chalkboard wall I like to change seasonally. The hooks typically hold backpacks, but of course the kids were at school when this photo was taken.
I had fun drawing a windy cloud, as we live up on a hill and with the Fall comes wind for us. And I am no artist…. that goes without saying!
The entry hall leads to one of my favorite spaces in the house, our dining room.
I really wasn’t sure what I was going to to decorate the dining room this year for Fall, but then I found all of these stripped wooden furniture parts at a yard sale, and they became the perfect centerpiece.
I paired them with antlers and little white pumpkins, brass candlesticks, and candles in blues and greens to pull in the colors on the artwork as well as the colors on the sideboard.
I love how this space brings together all of my favorite colors.I kept the sideboard simple, leaving my green vintage glass floats in place, and adding in blue glass jugs with dried hydrangeas. This sideboard is about to finally get a little makeover next month. Stay tuned for that! Oh, and check out the little gnome hanging from my sailboat. He was a gift from a friend and fits perfectly on my boat.
As you can see below, our dining room opens to our kitchen, with an industrial island dividing the two spaces. Our kitchen continues the cool neutrals and blue and green color palette, and it serves as the heart of our home. It’s where we cook together, have breakfast together, do homework, and just hang out as a family often.
The seasonal touches in our kitchen have mostly come from our yard. On the island I’ve placed a variety of cherry and grape tomatoes from our vegetable garden. I love to snack on these!
On the end of the island, more dried hydrangeas bring color in a crate I purchased at my own shop, Sweet Clover.
On the open shelving, I’ve added applesauce I canned myself (with help from one of my closest friends!) from apples grown on a tree in our yard. The fun dish towel also came from Sweet Clover.
I love that the applesauce tastes delicious, but also looks lovely and brings in a warm color to my shelves. I call that multi-functional!
The kitchen is also one of Catcher’s favorite places to hang out. Can you spot him on the floor? He blends right in!
And when he is not laying there… I told you he would make an appearance several times! This chalkboard door was written to help the kids get back into the swing of school with everything they need to remember before they head to the bus stop.
And finally, I have just one more thing to show you on your way out this door… I didn’t want to break out the wreath I have used in past years, and I found red Indian corn at a local shop. I decided to make it copper, and tied it with lace I found at a thrift shop and hung it from the door.
I truly hope you have enjoyed my tour as much as I have enjoyed getting my house ready for this season. And now, TGIF! I am off to yard sales, coffee dates, and soccer games… it’s going to be a perfect Fall weekend.
Catcher, Jake, and the rest of our family thank you for stopping by today!
From here, head on over to see Kimberly at Swoon Worthy for what is sure to be an edgy and glamorous Fall tour! Thank you so much for visiting with me today- time to go take a nice morning walk, and maybe crunch some leaves!
