Bohemian Modern Dresser and A Great Hardware Solution

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend!  We had a fabulous weekend at Sweet Clover- thank you to all who came and supported us!  I also got in an almost 10 mile run…. my first long run since the half marathon in December!  I felt great after, but by that afternoon I was ready for a nap…. So the beautiful Saturday I had planned to be productive turned out, well, notsomuch.  I did manage to get this dresser photographed and edited, and am so excited to share with you a bohemian modern dresser, and a great solution I came up with for its missing hardware.

Bohemian Modern Dresser with Feather Pulls

When I found this dresser, it had water damage marks all on one side, and the forbidden double knob which is an extreme pet peeve of mine.

IMG_2804Whatever you do, please don’t do the double knob!  I removed all of the hardware, and gave the piece a very light sanding all over, but a little bit of a harder sanding on the left side to get rid of all of the marks.  I planned to give it all a coat of General Finishes Antique Walnut gel stain, and then maybe paint some areas, or the drawers since I thought I would fill holes.  However, once I applied the gel stain, I just loved the rich look of the wood and graining.  I decided not to paint any part.

Once the stain dried for 24 hours, I applied a coat of Minwax wipe-on poly with a rag.  I love the low luster finish if this poly, and knew this was the perfect piece for it.

Then came the hardware… This dresser was finished and sat in my garage for a week while I mulled over hardware options as the spacing was non-standard.  I thought about creating my own modern pulls using pipes or lucite. And I searched on etsy and ebay for midcentury brass pulls in the right size, but I had no luck.  While setting up at Sweet Clover last week, I came across feather pulls that our vendor, Random Notion, carries; and I was inspired to create my solution!

I took two pulls per drawer and stacked them, drilling two center holes as well.  Basically, all of the holes made a skinny diamond shape, if that makes sense.  And together on the drawer, the feather pulls looked like this….

Stacked Feather PullsAnd hopefully this view will get a better idea of the hole placement.

Stacked Feather Pulls 2It was not at all what my original plan was, but I love how it came together in a bohemian modern way.

Bohemian Modern Dresser with Feather Pulls

I placed it in our guest room to stage it against the black walls.  I really wish I had a white blank wall somewhere!Bohemian Modern Dresser with Gold Feather PullsI added some of my favorite “bohemian modern” accessories… a “runners” sign I found at a flea market, a vintage wood antelope, aloe in a gold leafed milk glass piece, and my white and gold antlers.

modern bohemian accessories.Since we had been so busy at Sweet Clover on Friday and Saturday, I hauled this piece with me to work on Sunday to help fill holes.  But a big part of me wanted to find a place for it in my own home.  But we’ve had enough musical furniture around here lately!

Those knobs were the perfect ‘save’ from the dreaded double knob dilemma.

Really dig those lucite knobs from SDG.
