I know, I am posting on a Sunday, but I have a busy week ahead and wanted to be sure to share my review of September’s book pick with you!  Our little book club has been growing, so be sure to check out the reviews my fellow clubbers, Carmel, Kirby, Katie, and Brenda post!

In September we read….
Big Little Lies was my pick after chatting with my mother in law who recommended it.  I truly loved it- Moriarty has a fabulous style of writing.  In this book, Moriarty discusses an issue that has been predominant in our nation’s headlines as of late- domestic abuse.  This issue is one that many people associate with a certain class, or lack of education, but this book really shows the truth (in a fictional manner!).

In this novel, we follow the lives of Madeline the remarried mother, Celeste the idyllic mother of twins, and Jane the young single mother- all moms with children at the same preschool.  We see their stories unfold and intertwine, and relationships develop.  And as readers, we know that a murder is being investigated, but the scenario is not revealed until the end.  Until then, we are guessing as to who ends up dead, and how and why.  Moriarty’s style keeps what could be a thick and serious novel feeling as light as possible.  What I truly loved about this book, aside from the writing style, was the feeling of camaraderie between the women and moms…. it was a story of friends sticking by friends, supporting one another and giving strength when it is needed.

I don’t want to give away too much, but I will tell you that I enjoyed this book so much that I ended up diving right into another Moriarty novel:

And I loved it even MORE.  So, basically, you just need to check out Lianne Moriarty.  I’m anxious to read more of her books!

Katie has selected October’s book:

From the reviews I have read this sounds like a sweet tale, and shows us the magic of books!  I’m ready to embrace an uplifting and inspiring story! 🙂

Happy reading!

I liked it too, Cassie! I might pick up The Husband’s Secret over Christmas break. I haven’t started the new book yet because I wanted to read the new Anna Quindlen. I’ll be starting it this week.

Hi Cassie, I really enjoy your blog, and esp. Your book reviews. Someday I hope to follow along with you, but I Would like to pin it, or get it off your Pinterest. I don’t find it on the Pinterest board, though, so I was wondering if there is a way I can pin your reviews? If not, it’s certainly no problem, just wondering.;/. Thanks Cassie, Sincerely, Melody Ambler

I loved The Husband’s Secret – one of my faves – and didn’t know that the same author had a new book out. Can’t wait to read it!

Interesting. I’m much better at reading when I have lots of things in the cue and don’t stop. Once I stop all bets are off it may be months before I pick up another book! Thanks for sharing!

I know I have already read your review, but seems I got distracted and did not comment. This happens as you get into your fifties, dear girl. So cherish the brain cells while you have them. I want to read The Husband’s Secret, but I’m waiting until it comes down in price. Or if it doesn’t soon, I’ll get it anyway. Loved this book. She set the plot up so well that you had to read it all to find out who got killed! Now I can’t recall if I got to Kirb Appeal, so I’d better head over there next!
