Follow my blog with BloglovinIf you’ve been following me for a while, you might remember two years ago when I revamped our playroom. I loved it, but we’ve since had a couple of incidents which left it in a less than desirable state. Less than a year after it was finished, we had plumbin issues with our kitchen drain, which lead to flooding in the playroom. We had to have it recarpeted, new drywall hung, and it got repainted. We put it back together as best we could and then 4 months later, the same exact thing happened. On Christmas morning, of all times. I walked into the playroom to get something and felt the mushing of water between my toes in the carpeting…. I knew what it meant. So once again, everything was ripped out and apart and all redone. And this last time I looked at it once it was put back together, and it all felt so very black and white and blah. To be honest, it was black and white and blah. This space is for the kids, so why would I remove all color for them??? Why??? I can’t answer as to what I was thinking, but I’ve come around and realized the error of my ways. I’ve decided it’s time to add color into that space and breathe new life into it. I’ve started bringing color into the playroom with a new rug from Plush Rugs.
How amazing is this rug? When I was searching my criteria were as follows:
- Work with our charcoal sectional (By West Elm. Similar here.)
- Shag style as Sawyer and friends use this area for video games which is why there’s no coffee table.
- Work layered over gray carpeting.
- Available in 8×10
When it came down to it Plush Rugs had several options that met my criteria, but I ended up choosing the Margaretta Shaggy which had an array of bright and bold colors. This rug really will allow me to bring in any color I wish. And I don’t even know what I will ever do with that ceiling, so just pretend you don’t see it… it’s the weirdest thing.
The kids have had this rug in place now for a couple of months and absolutely love how comfortable it is and how nice it feels under their feet. As you can see, there’s plenty of room for them to sprawl out and play. I often find them with pillows propped up against the bottom of the sofa, laying on the floor and leaning back on the pillows.
Those two lights above the sofa are the only source of natural light in this space, so having a nice bright rug like this truly opens up the room.I am excited about making more changes to the playroom and bring in more color in the form of pillows, and possibly some art, but that gallery wall will remain. I still love those animal prints as well as the printables I created with special quotes.
I also think I may change the space behind the TV somewhat though not sure how yet. I love that the black blends that TV right in, but it also sort of sucks light out of the room. Any ideas out there?
The kids are also thrilled about more vibrant color coming into their play space! At the rate I have been moving lately, I should have this room brightened up and ready for them as soon as they are packed up for college. 😉
The Margarette Shaggy rug from Plush Rugs has given me a great jumping off point, so now it’s just up to me to jump!
