We made it through another week! That may not sound like a big deal to some of you but this week was a DOOZY here…Our water heater has been leaking and the company ordered the wrong replacement; meanwhile the leak has worsened while we wait. My windshield got a crack in it (currently awaiting the repair company to come fix it.) Chris left at 4 am Wednesday to catch a flight and that morning Wilder decided to wake at 5:30 and Emmy took a digger on the way to the bus scraping both knees and an elbow thus needing to be cleaned up and driven to school. Later that morning I decided it was all going to be OK, packed up Wilder to hit story time which was our only social outing this week, only to get there to find it cancelled. So yes, I say, we made it through another week and I am more than ready for a weekend! It’s supposed to rain here all weekend, but our front door is being installed as I write this and I can’t wait to get it painted and spruce up our porch. The past week or so, I’ve spend some time sourcing all of the pieces I need to create the look I want and thought I’d share them with you today in another Budget Find Friday: Finds for a Modern Small Front Porch. (This post contains affiliate links).
Chime / Lantern / Door / House Numbers / Paint / Deadbolt / Door knob / Gray Planter / Midcentury Planters / Striped Outdoor Mat / Door Mat
I decided to put it all into one graphic for you so you could see how everything would look together! I have ordered or purchased many of these things already and am excited to get it all put together outside and make our little rancher a little cuter and more inviting. Currently, we have a very old and very worn red door (red over layers of old paint), which is solid and lets no light into the entry, as I mentioned the other day when I shared our entry update. I was shocked to find this inexpensive craftsman style door at Lowes which will be just perfect! Doors are freaking expensive and this one comes in at only $330 and has great reviews. While the house itself is a midcentury rancher, I think the modern lines of the door will suit it well and I am looking forward to getting more light in. We’ll also be updating the hardware with matte black door knobs including this dead bolt and its coordinating door knob. (I searched everywhere and ordered from Build.com as they had the best prices I could find.)
As for painting it, I have not 100% selected the color yet but I plan to paint the door pink and really dig this Lotus Flower by Sherwin Williams. Their paint is on sale this weekend for 40% off so you can’t beat that! Our house is a brick rancher with a break in the brick on the porch which is sort of paneled and painted gray at the moment. I will be repainting the gray area in white, the door in pink, and eventually I would like to paint the brick black. One thing at a time though (although I want to PAINT ALL THE THINGS NOW!)
Now let’s talk about the real MVP of this front door and the best bargain out there…. the lantern! It’s so hard to find a fabulous porch light with a modern profile, and this one seemed like a great fit. When I saw the price of $30.99 I couldn’t add it to my Amazon cart fast enough. It’s by the same brand that made our $75 dining room chandelier and we’ve been happy with that light thus far.
Our house currently has black metal numbers next to the door, but I don’t love them. If I am going to spruce up this porch, I want to pay attention to those little details. I found these fabulous modern house numbers on Amazon and loved their size (6″ high) and clean style and felt they fit the midcentury vibe of the home.
As for the door mats, I love the layered look and already had the “Home Sweet Home” small mat from target. It’s a bargain at just over $12! As you may have noticed thus far in our 60s rancher, black and white are a recurring theme. I love high contrast and the classic timeless feel of black and white. They also create cohesion throughout our home. A larger striped black and white mat like this will look perfect layered under the Target mat and add a bit of graphic punch.
As for planters, I actually found two that I loved at my local At Home Store last week when they were having their BOGO 50% off sale, but I couldn’t find them online, so I’ve shared some here with a similar modern vibe. I bought a large gray one like this, and then I found a cool modern black and white one and I couldn’t find anything like it online, but loved these midcentury looking planters that come in a pair.
Lastly, I love whimsical touches on a porch. This stoneware chime from Target is only $8 and would look so fun hanging out there! I actually didn’t order this one, but I did order this set of 3 brass looking bells for the inside of my house, and they are also a steal so sharing here!
I can’t wait to see it all come together and to be able to share it with you soon! It is supposed to rain here ALL WEEKEND LONG, but hopefully that won’t stop me from painting. What are you getting into this weekend? And do you have any awesome budget finds to share?
