Remember this dresser I got for free last week from a lovely reader, “Random Heather”? Well let’s refresh your memory…
It was in good shape structurally, meaning the drawers all worked, but cosmetically the veneer was peeling off the sides and the top. I got to work with my handy dandy paint scraper and was able to get all of the remaining veneer off the sides and top. When it was removed, the top was super smooth, but the sides were still pretty rough and one side had some ripples. I decided that paper wouldn’t look great over it because it would look like I had wrinkled the paper and done a poor mod podge job, so I decided to paint. I smoothed it out as best i could by using spackle and then sanding with my orbital sander. Once that was done and the drawers and rest of the dresser was sanded as well, I primed it with 2 coats of my new zero VOC KILZ. Then I used 3 coats of Sherwin Williams Alabaster, and distressed it by hand to bring out the details. I used the original hardware because I liked the modern edge they gave to the dresser with their streamlined shape. Here it is now- sorry these aren’t the best pictures, but it is a rainy day here!
