Cheerful Spring Porch with Pink Door & Accents
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”- Buddy the Elf
“The best way to spread socially distanced cheer is decorating your porch for friends not too near.”- Cassie Bustamante
There, I said it as quoted above. One of the best things we can do right now to spread some joy throughout our neighborhoods is to decorate our porches and yards in more fun ways than ever before. Last spring we made over our front porch on a total budget, and it has been one of the most impactful and inexpensive makeovers I’ve done to date. In the beginning, I kept the decor pretty minimal and neutral with accents of black, white, and gray, and my intention this year was to clean it up back to where it started. Then we found out country in this weird circumstance, and I knew my plan needed to change. Throughout this time of social distancing, one of the things that keeps me going is walking twice a day… once in the morning when it’s dark and quiet in the world, and once in the afternoon light where I see all of the beauty that’s been created in my neighborhood, from chalkboard designs to rainbows in windows, signs filled with words of encouragement, to chairs in front yards filled with couples waving to pedestrians and bikers passing by. Instead of going neutral and minimal, I decided to add some color and inspiring words, and haul out the vintage flamingos, or ‘mingos as Wilder likes to call them. Today I am thrilled to share my cheerful spring porch with you, and and at the bottom of this post you’ll find links to several other beautiful front porches that are being shared today. The newest addition to our porch is this cheerful rainbow flag my friend Courtney at Declaration Home sent to me as a gift. I love the color and the message. Rainbows have been a thing in my life ever since Wilder, my rainbow baby, joined us. I’ve got black and white rainbows in my hallway, and I’ve been known to make rainbow crafts.
The flag is bright and beautiful and visible from the street so friends can walk by and see our message of togetherness.
In addition to the flag, I’ve added door decor I’ll be sharing more about in a week and a half, but for now you can at least see it. ๐ I am a huge fan of black and white pattern and love it paired with pink, so naturally my new piece brings more of that to our porch.
As you can see, I’ve already got black and white stripes as on my mat as well as my modern planter. I found these planters last year at my local At Home store. We planted the pansies back in February and they are really thriving now!
You really can’t ever have too much black and white pattern. ๐
Right now, you also can’t take yourself too seriously. We all need a little fun and silliness in our lives. A few years ago, I purchased a pair of vintage flamingoes and I knew they had to come out to the front yard. I found another vintage set just like them here, and Amazon even has something similar here if you can’t find vintage.
Yes, they’re a little ridiculous, but they make me smile, and I hope they make people passing by smile as well. Just look at those faces, asking you to love them.
When Chris and I sit out front in our Adirondack chairs, and they heckle is from behind.
Meanwhile, the dogs peer out from the windows… Don’t be fooled by that sad face. They are getting walked and loved so much these days.
Now, before I leave you for the day, I also wanted to share a few photos from a second rendition of our porch since I keep switching it up. If you recall, just last month Emmy and I created a no-sew peace sign banner from a drop cloth. She did the painting and I am so proud of her, so I alternate between the two banners to keep it interesting out here. We have to entertain ourselves somehow these days!
I think the flamingos look right at home with this peace sign, don’t you?
On that note, peace, my friends!
