Saturday morning I hit the jackpot with yard sales before Emmy’s soccer game! I totaled my costs, and I spent a total of around $35 on all of this…..
I got to work right away on some of it Saturday after Sawyer’s soccer game. The coffee table was one of the first pieces I tackled. I wanted to make it chic to fit the lines and glass top and gold details, so I chose General Finishes Lamp Black. I have raved about this color and paint before- it is my “go to” black.
I sanded down the table as best I could and gave it 3 coats of the black paint. I then distressed it lightly and finished it with Minwax wipe on poly in satin. I texted a picture to Kelly of The Stylish Patina Barn because I planned to consign it with her.
Well, then on Monday I decided the best place to take it for pictures to share with you was my own living room. And wouldn’t you know, I kind of liked the way it looked there? Ok, I kind of loved it. I don’t usualyl do black furniture for me, but I don’t know…. it’s working for me.
Here is where the living room was…
And here it is with my new black coffee table! I moved the couches slightly closer to each other and it feels cozier, yet more open with the glass top of this table.
(The first two pictures were initially taken for staging purposes- when the candy corn jar enters, that’s when you know it’s staying!)
Love these details and the soft blue hint to the beveled edges of the glass, which fits into the room perfectly.
And now these pictures were taken once I realized it was a keeper, and I moved the couches closer.
Mmmmm candy corn. And how cute is my new bird friend, Gordy (because he’s made from a gourd!)? He was a gift from my friend, Ali, and I love having him in the room.
Oh, and did you notice my new pumpkins? Pumpkins make me happy.
Chris came home from work Monday and I had not told him about the table. A few minutes after he arrived he said “I really like the new table.” He doesn’t usually say anything without my prompting, so I know he really loves it. It’s a keeper. And so is he.
