Christmas Eve Tablescape

The word tablescape is one that is rarely used on this blog because I usually don’t put a ton of thought or effort into setting the table. I know- place the cone of shame around my neck now.  Well, this Christmas Eve, my parents, my brother and his amazing girlfriend (Happy Birthday, Viri!) will all be having dinner with us and sleeping here so that they can experience Christmas morning with the kids.  Thank goodness we finally have room for that many people to sleep over!  Tomorrow I am taking the kids to a movie, Saturday we have Christmas Eve brunch at my parents, so I wanted to go ahead and get the table ready now since we will be hurrying home from my parents Saturday to prepare for dinner. (Lobster dinner- a tradition started 4 years ago!).

Emmy and I headed to the storage loft today and went through Nana’s dishes to find what we needed… “fancy” dishes as Emmy called them.  They are Lennox china that belonged to Nana.  We also had beautiful crystal glasses that had belonged to her so we used those as well.  We tied up white napkins with twine and a couple of ornaments for shine.  I also had some fun tea cup place card holders I bought a few years ago at a holiday craft fair, so Emmy filled out names for me.  Here is our table/dining room, ready for Christmas Eve dinner.

And that, my friends, is as fancy as it gets around here. 🙂

It’s PLENTY fancy! I love the mix. I also love an environment that doesn’t make you nervous you might break something and upset someone!
This morning on Air 1, they were saying “Go ahead and use that chipped bowl. It sends the message, ‘real people are welcome here.'” I must agree, even though I probably won’t. 🙂

I’m not huge on “tablescaping” either since it always seems in the way of the reason we sit down to eat…the food. So I like it simple and pretty and portable! Your table looks perfect to me. Have a wonderful dinner and magical Christmas!

    Beautiful!
I’m so jealous of your dining room chair and table combo. Sadly, I’m not in the market right now for new table and chairs, but my sister is…I’m going to show her your dining room and hope to live vicariously through her 🙂
    Merry Christmas!
