Happy Wednesday!  Today I am participating in a holiday tradition blog hop hosted by Rachel of Like a Saturday.  if you are hopping over from Live Laugh Rowe, welcome!  We all have those special things that we do with our loved ones throughout the season, those things that make Christmas complete.  We have a few, but I want to share my favorite with you.  We started this tradition in 2009, when Sawyer 4 and Emmy was just about to turn 3.  And we will continue this tradition until I’m no longer allowed…

pjcollage

Our tradition is to give the kids matching pajamas on Christmas Eve.  Sawyer and Emmy LOVE this tradition as of now; they try to make sure they wear their matching pj’s on nights other than Christmas Eve as well…. they love to match!  In fact, as I finish writing this post, they are laying at the foot of the bed, watching “The Santa Clause” and wearing last year’s matching pajamas.  I love this tradition because of the closeness it brings my kids, and I also love that each year we will have photos of them in their matching pajamas.

I also love selecting them each year and typically shop in the boys section since they are more likely to be suitable for both sexes.  Let’s take a trip through memory lane to see pajamas of the past.  (and pardon these non-blog quality photos, but these are ust some of our family snapshots).

In 2009, there were the christmas dog pajamas.

pj2009

2010 brought them penguins from the North Pole!

pj2010

Then in 2011, flannel moose (or meese, as I like to call them) were all the rage.pj2011

2012 was all about the fleece snowman.  I wish they made these in my size- they look so cozy!

pj2012a

Last year, in 2013, we went with polar bears- these might be my favorites so far!

pj2013

And what’s in store for 2014?  Well, our pajamas just arrived in the mail and I can’t wait to give these to the kids!  I found these fun and fabulous reindeer pajamas at Target for a steal last week, and even got free shipping!  I can’t wait to see Sawyer and Emmy run into the living room on Christmas morning wearing these!

reindeerpj

One of their own traditions that they’ve added is to also have a sleepover in Sawyer’s room on Christmas Eve.  Two years ago we gave them pottery barn kids cozy sleeping bags- a moose for Sawyer and a polar bear for Emmy.  We roll these out on Sawyer’s floor, and they giggle with excitement until they fall asleep for the night.

This photo from 2012 captures it well….

Now be sure to head on over to House by Hoff to see April’s Christmas tradition!

And if you want to catch up on all of the traditions, you can click here to see the full list at the bottom of the pose.

Ummm, so I was totally trying to convince my SIL to buy those last week and she settled on minions or something equally horrific. If only they had Ike’s size…

Your kids are unbelievably cute and if I get around to spawn, I’m totally going to do this.

I’ve had this same tradition for 28 years…. kids are 21 and 28 and still expect their Christmas Eve PJs! As they got older we transitioned from matching to themed pjs. Son’s favorite NFL team and Daughter’s favorite NBA team…. camouflage one year for both but hers was pink… all black one year… flannel for each one year, etc. So your tradition can continue! 28 yr old looks forward to coming home for Christmas and jokes about getting her PJ fix! I feel that we may have a wedding coming up soon… wonder if a son or daughter in law would accept this tradition??? Haha!

We’ve done that over the years too! My girls are 6 years apart though so sometimes they are just coordinating not matching!. Whatever works!:) I’m trying to think of something that will work for our Christmas in Paris this year..it might just be cute Christmas fluffy socks!

We would always open one gift on Christmas Eve and it was always pjs. Such a fun tradition. And our parents would put a record player (yes, with real records) in the hallway outside of our rooms playing Christmas music on Christmas Eve to fall asleep to. That was probably to drown out the noise of “Santa”, but we loved it. 🙂

This is such a sweet tradition! I love seeing your kiddos in their PJ’s throughout the years 🙂 This is a tradition we’ve had in our house since as long as I can remember! One of our favorite things growing up was getting our Christmas PJs and waiting to hear Santa on the roof 🙂 I love that you’re passing that down to your littles!

This is such a sweet tradition! I remember my sisters and I had matching pajamas one year growing up, but they were crazy uncomfortable flannel nightgowns with tight elastic at the sleeves, so it wasn’t a hit in our household. I would wear ANY of the pajamas you showed though if they came in adult sizes!

So cute! We have a similar tradition. Christmas Jammie’s for Christmas Eve, but they don’t match. We also give each of the girls a new ornament every year. When they’re older they’ll have a good amount to put on their own trees.

how cute are your kids and my how they have grown!!! So many times, kids go through stages where they really don’t like each other, but I think you might not ever have to deal with that with these two. 🙂

aww, love all these pictures! (your kids have always looked exactly the same as they do now!) Last year was our first year without matching PJs on Christmas Eve. Sniff. Ari had outgrown kid sizes, and was barely tolerating it anymore anyway :(. So enjoy it while you can! I got them matching xmas shirts from shirt woot instead last year and this year. so that’s something.

We do Christmas Eve PJ’s, too. It’s a tradition that my parents always did for me, and now I do for my boys. Though, I don’t always get ones that match (was trying to do that this year, but couldn’t get the sizing right… Ughhh!). I love to have them in the holiday-themed PJs for all those sleepy-head Christmas morning photos!
