Color My World Coral: Decor Week

April 10, 2012 by Cassie 36 Comments

last week I shared with you that I was participating in a “Color My World” challenge, and that I had chosen coral.

Well this week the project we need to share is a decor project.  I am adding coral into the main living areas of my home.  I thought, what better place to add it to decor than the mantle?  So that is just what I tackled.  This project is however part paint as well since I didn’t want to spend any money.
I found this arrow recently at a thrift shop and knew I could use it at some point.
Pin

I removed the arrow from the base and painted it in Benjamin Moore’s Ryan Red(it’s a red hued coral color), which I had left over from this project:

I also gathered some branches from the wooded lot next to us and painted them.  I took down our Easter tree yesterday, and when I did, I took a couple of the aqua butterflies to add to the branches. Aside from that, I kept the palette pretty clean with lots of whites, so the coral would really pop.  I added white milk glass, pale aqua candles, white candles, and white owls my bestie Ali sent me!
Here it is all together….

By the way, I thought painting the sticks by hand was going to be a big fat pain in the butt, but it really wasn’t so bad!  I had wanted to spray them, but could not find the right shade of coral I wanted.  I simply used a foam brush and worked at the skinny part of the branch first and then just worked my way down.
I already have my paint and fabric projects done, too, and can’t wait to share them!  I am really loving having some coral in my life.  Hap-hap-happy!
