A Colorful World: Shimmering Accents with Ali from My Third True Love

Today, Ali from My Third True Love is here to talk about adding some sparkle to your home with metallic accents!  How fun!  I thought it was fitting that she discuss the jewels of the home since her Etsy shop features adorable jewelry.  Ali and I became fast friends, bonding over similar work experiences in the post college days.  We both worked as managers for Abercromie & Fitch, and were laughing over the to-low jeans we wore, and district managers who told us we needed more sexiness.   Ah yes, the joys that company brought to my life. (please note sarcasm).  At least it gave Ali and I an instant connnection!  She is one of the sweetest bloggers out there with a heart of gold, so it is only fitting she is here talking about gold.

Hello to all of Cassie’s FABULOUS readers, I am so thrilled to be here!! When Cassie asked me to do a post about metallics, I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure if I could fit the bill. Then I started looking around my house, and new I was up for the challenge. Metallics aka “the jewels of the home.” BEAUTIFUL! Metallics are what I consider to be a neutral. Being a beach girl, I am constantly on the hunt for the perfect pair of silver flip flops (my Summer go-to footwear). As far as my home goes, trying to find that perfect metallic accessory is equally challenging and fun.
I want to first start off this post by saying that I am a VERY lucky girl. VERY lucky. I have an amazing husband, adorable healthy children, a roof over our heads, etc. That being said, there are some people in this world that are even luckier than I am. Case in point – my twin sister who was recently able to order these AMAZING metallic mirrored bedside tables from Potterybarn. Yes, you heard that right, there are actually people out there that get to shop at Potterybarn. I know. I’m just as shocked as you are, ha ha! Seriously, these bedside tables are the perfect example of “metallics gone REALLY right.” I can’t wait to see them in her beautiful space (& steal them in the middle of the night, ha ha). Ok, moving on.Pin

I definitely can’t afford Potterybarn, but I can still add bits of metallic into my space to fancy it up a bit and make it pretty and unique. Here is a picture of the gallery wall in my home “before.” Pretty, right? But it’s definitely safe. TOO safe.Pin

Here is a picture of it after I jazzed it up with some awesomely gaudy gold frames from the thrift store. OH YEAH! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!! I didn’t go nuts with it, I just added a bit of glitz and interest to an otherwise bland arrangement.Pin

Pin

Even my #1 house rule when framed in swirly gold seems less grumpy unwelcoming – ha ha! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Shhhhhhhhhh.Pin (Silence is golden, please whisper if you must speak)
These pretty butterflies are actually stickers that I got at the Dollar Tree. I stuck them on some pretty scrapbook paper, framed them in gold, and BAM! Magic!

Pin

Sometimes more subtle metallics do the trick. If flashy gold isn’t your cup of tea, incorporating a subtle deep bronze feels rich and elegant. It also helps bring out the patina in an old print or photograph.Pin

More often than not, I go for the opposite extreme and go flashy. Adding these bold gold stripes to my drab mirror definitely added some new life to my bedroom. Again, may not be for everyone, but it is definitely for me ๐Ÿ˜‰Pin

If the gold in the above photos freaked you out, and you prefer to play it safe, go for it! Chrome & silver often tie in well with hardware & appliances that already exist in your home. This definitely makes for a more subtle, sophisticated timeless look & is equally pretty (p.s. that clock is actually from Potterybarn but was a wedding gift so it doesn’t really count as me shopping there). PinRegardless of if you choose flashy gold, mirrors, deep bronze, or silver, metallics are a MUST in any home. Make your home proud and sprinkle in some sparkle people! Mirrors & glitter & gold, OH MY!!
Thanks again for having me Cassie! Muah!

I love all your mixed metals! I was never a fan of gold until I paired it with Jadeite Bowl wall color by Martha Stewart! I now love it!

I think I might need a little more sparkle in my life. Rust just doesn’t shine like that.

@Cassie – Ha ha ha, you cracked me up with your introduction. I wonder if your former managers would find your paint splattered clothes sexy enough ๐Ÿ™‚ People would probably pay good money for paint splattered clothes at A&F!
@Ali – I’m totally stealing your quote, “awesomely gaudy”! Love it! And I love all the bling that you add around your house !
