Hello friends! A couple weeks ago I shared our new vintage dining room chairs and you may have noticed that our dining room got a little refresh with a new rug! Last Fall we swapped around some rugs in our home and I moved our old Moroccan shag rug into the dining room. It was never meant to be permanent, but I thought I would try it out there and really loved it. However, when I repainted the kitchen cabinets in a much lighter color this past January, the rug in the dining room suddenly felt dark and heavy and the flow wasn’t working for me between the two rooms. I debated pulling out the rug entirely, but to be honest, the dogs love laying on the rug and I do want them to be comfortable in their home as well. A new lighter rug was definitely the way to go so we happily went forward with a dining room rug refresh. (This rug was provided to me by Mohawk Home. I was also compensated for a post I wrote for their blog, but not this post. This post contains affiliate links.)
I wanted this rug to be a few things… large enough for this space (8×10), comfortable and soft under feet, and I especially wanted it to bring in the soft aqua of the kitchen cabinets. When I found the Clinton rug by Mohawk in aqua it seemed to tick all of the boxes. It has a subtle chevron style pattern, and to be honest I am over chevron, but with the pile and design of the rug, it truly is very subtle. (Also, how about that awesome window trim that Catcher has destroyed…. when we have to move one day I will bother repainting it. I repainted it once only to have him destroy it again and just gave up!)
To be honest, when I unrolled the rug, it had much more green than I had anticipated. The aqua was still there, but there is predominantly a green shade and I was worried. However, I looked around at my green hutch, my green plants everywhere, and realized it was actually just right! It truly helps unify the dining room and the kitchen and the flow feels so much better to me.
Our front door is also painted a pale shade of aqua on the interior, and the rug complements that as well. Our minted Horse print also has the same colors in its background.
If you want more details about this rug and this space, check out my post on Mohawk’s blog. As you can see, I am not the only one thrilled with the new rug…. Catcher approves. While he looks calm and happy here, remember, this is the same dog that destroyed my window with his anxiety! He’s worth it…. I think. If you’re interested in shopping any of the items from this post, I’ve curated a little shoppable boutique below. Feel free to reach out with any other questions in the comments.
