Dollhouse DIYs: Mirror & Door Mat (Swap It Like It’s Hot!)

Hey guys!  I am so excited to be participating in this round of Swap It Like It’s Hot!  I had to sit out the Fall challenge because work was chaotic, but I was thrilled that Charlotte of Ciburbanity still kept me on the list and invited me to play along this time!  If you’re not familiar with Swap It, a group of bloggers each mail off a box of thrifted finds to one another and we each have to make something out of what we receive.  When I received my box from Meagan from The Charming Farmer I was flummoxed at first…. but then I thought of my dollhouse and knew my items were perfect for dollhouse DIYs, including  a mirror and door mat.

DIY Dollhouse Mirror and Door Mat from thrift store findsPinMeagan had sent me a box with a lovely lamp I didn’t use and a set of these woven coasters… (You can find similar here).IMG_6851PinI started with the door mat as my house was in need of one.  I had already bought miniature rubber boots, so of course I needed a door mat!  I began by cutting one of the coasters in half, and then I ran hot glue from a glue gun down the line to prevent fraying.IMG_6854Pin

Once I set it down it was a little too large scale, so I had to trim it down.  I used scissors to cut the connections between each arc. (And I am so sorry for this photo… I didn’t realze how blurry it was from viewing it on my phone!)IMG_6855PinOnce I made my way around, I was able to remove the outer arc.IMG_6856PinAnd then it was simply ready to be a lovely miniature doormat on my dollhouse porch!Miniature Doormat from coasterPinI am pretty much in love with all things miniature at the moment.  These boots though… they kill me!Miniature Door Mat from CoasterPinFor the mirror, again it was a ridiculously simple DIY and I only needed my hot glue gun and a little craft mirror.  I simply put hot glue on the backside of the mirror, centered it, and smacked that sucker right onto the coaster.  And voila, instant dollhouse chic mirror!  I was going to use it over the mantle, but Emmy wanted the federal mirror over the mantle and this one to go in the bathroom.  So to the bathroom it went!DIY Dollhouse MirrorPinAgain, if you want to create these on your own and the thrift shop doesn’t have what you need, you can also find almost the exact coasters I used on Amazon.

Now, because of my absolutely sensational organizational skills, I didn’t have a photo of what I sent to Corinna… and I didn’t even remember what I sent.  You guys, it was like 6 weeks ago.  I can barely remember what I did yesterday.  What did I do yesterday?

But lucky for you, Corinna was nice enough to supply me with one…random thrift scoresPinAnyhow, head on over to A Designer at Home next to see what she created with the items I sent to her!

Thank you to Meagan at The Charming Farmer for sending me my goodies!  And thank you so much to Charlotte for organizing the entire shebang!  Check out all of today’s participants to see what they have created, and be sure to check out the rest of the days as well from earlier this week.  The links are all below!FRIDAY SwapPin

You are a girl after my own heart. I have a dollhouse that I had as a child and all my kids played with. Now it sits in my attic and I hope that one day I will take it down and make it over with all the cute tiny things (including wellies of course) and these ideas are awesome!
