It’s the last Tuesday of April and that means it’s time for the Dollhouse Therapy month 1 room reveals! Alice, Anu, and Emy and I will all be showing you our first dollhouse room makeovers, and invite you to share yours in the linky at the bottom of the post. Today I am going to share my finished living room and bathroom. You might recall I shared with you the plans for my living room here, but I never shared bathroom plans. That’s because to be honest, I never really had a major plan for the bathroom… it was one of those spaces that just sort of came together, ya know?
Let’s start in the living room since we had an existing plan.
Everything really came together in this space with our plan of white, black, wood, and leather. If you recall Emmy wanted a white sofa and leather chair. We found exactly what we needed at miniatures.com as well as some other fun pieces to add to the mix. We also found some needs on etsy, ebay, and craigslist, and we DIYed several things we couldn’t find or just because we wanted to! I mean come on, making tiny things is fun!
One of my favorite pieces in this space is the miniature federal mirror… who knew they made these in miniature? That was something we could not DIY if we tried, so order it we did, along with the little snake plant. The bust was given to us by our friend Emily, the clay succulent was made by Emmy, and the black fireplace was created from a vintage wooden box.The white baby grand piano was an ebay find that my kids talked me into. Wise choice, kids… it really fits that corner well. The candelabra came from my own childhood dollhouse collection.Accent tables proved to be what challenged me in this space. I just couldn’t find anything that I adored. I decided to use these little leather look suitcases stacked as a side table for the sofa and love the look. And for the chair I used a bench Emily gave me and stacked books under it, and placed some of our clay plants near and on it for a little bohemian touch. You might also notice that the windows were trimmed out in black. That was a super easy DIY just using some cheap balsa wood strips, paint, and hot glue!Emmy and I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon swearing at the sewing machine making some adorable tiny pillows for our sofa and chair. She insisted that the dog sit on the couch, maybe because in real life we don’t allow our dogs on our furniture. I created the light fixture last week using a brass ring, beads, and wire. I also added some miniature pom poms just for fun. It’s not really supposed to look like any fixtures I have seen- it’s just modern and whimsical, and highly imperfect. It looks really fun in front of the light! Oh, and the coffee table! I meant to mention that…. it’s a trunk I purchased in an ebay lot. I truly wanted a little lucite table but I just couldn’t find what I wanted for a price I liked, nor could I figure out how to make one. I think the trunk works perfectly. One of my absolute favorite elements of this space is the huge “Wild & Free” art which came from my friend Jacqueline’s etsy shop. It really just makes this space.A very sweet friend of mine found a set of 3 mint frames at a craft shop for $1.50 and picked them up with me and Emmy in mind. I used white cardstock to create simple art and hung one to the left of the door which opens to the living room. Also, there’s a little sneak peek of the kitchen. 😉 Ok, so that’s it for the living room! Now let’s head into the bathroom. Like I said, I didn’t have a plan for it, but I knew I wanted simple black and white. Let’s enter through the hall doorway… How cute are these little wooden bathroom symbols I found at Joann? I had to put them up! And no there is no actual privacy door, but let’s face it… dolls don’t need privacy. Here we go… the entire bathroom!
For not having a major plan I am so happy with how this space came together. The black cabinet and white toilet were both given to us by Emily. The vanity was leftover from my childhood, and the brass bathtub was an instagram purchase I found through #thriftscorethursday from Doug Fritock, who always finds the best stuff!
I gave the cabinet a fresh coat of glossy black spray paint and added a paint by number business card my bestie sent me from California- she thought it would be perfect for the dollhouse and she was right!Over the toilet I created another little piece of artwork using one of the frames my friend gave me. And how stinking cute is the little brass toilet paper holder? I just might have the matching paper towel one in the kitchen.
You’ve seen the vanity with the DIY mirror from a coaster, but I added some little apothecary jars and mounted the mirror to the wall. The cactus was made by me when we made our clay dollhouse plants. The bathroom also received a DIY chandelier. I have no idea where this little brass piece came from but I wired on little sparkly seed beads and added beads as light bulbs with hot glue. I hung it from the ceiling and was happy with the way it turned out with sort of a modern vintage vibe.It catches the light and has a nice little sparkle, thanks to inexpensive seed beads. The gorgeous crocheted bath mat was a gift from my friend Elizabeth at Rustic Maple. She took a custom order from Emmy who wanted black and white, and I love what she created!
Now for my personal favorite part of the bathroom… the shower curtain! I was on a mission to find cloud fabric in black and white at Joann’s… I didn’t see any, but I came across this great black triangle fabric and thought it was perfect for our vibe. I’ll have to write a separate post for you all about how I hung it. I wanted to show off the brass bathtub so I decided to make two curtains that open to show the tub rather than one.I mean, this tub had to be the centerpiece of the bathroom, right?
I have had so much fun with these spaces so far and am looking forward to seeing all of the rooms you’ve created. Don’t forget to visit my cohosts (Alice, Anu, and Emy) to see the progress they’ve made.
