Dollhouse Therapy: A New Creative Challenge

You guys!!!!!!  I am beyond excited about a new creative challenge I have been working on with 3 other talented bloggers; we’re calling it Dollhouse Therapy.  And we want YOU to participate!!!! dollhouse therapy square graphic

First of all, the name, Dollhouse Therapy, could not be more perfect.  (Emy from Semigloss Design coined it!)  Of course, it’s a play on a major home design blog we all know and love, Apartment Therapy.  But more so, for me, working on this dollhouse truly has become therapy…. I was in a rut and it’s sparked my creativity once again.  I wake up excited about the day ahead and what we might accomplish in it; so it truly has been therapeutic for me.

So what exactly is Dollhouse Therapy?  Well, after I shared my own dollhouse on instagram and the blog, I discovered that there were some other bloggers out there who had dollhouses that needed some TLC.  I reached out to them to invite them to start a challenge with me, and out of that Dollhouse Therapy was born… The DT team includes myself, Alice from Thoughts from Alice, Anu from Nalle’s House, and Emy from Semigloss Designs.

Do you have a dollhouse that you’ve been wanting to haul out and revamp?  Or do you just need a creative project to give you a jump start?  If so, then we want you to join our challenge!  Here’s how it will work….

Beginning in April on the first Tuesday of the month, Alice, Anu, Emy, and I will all share a room (or two) we plan to design and create that month.  On the last Tuesday of the month we will reveal our mini spaces, and invite you all to link up your own mini spaces.  We will repeat this in May, and in June, but the link party at the end of June will be the final house reveal. Aaaaaand, we will have an incredible giveaway for a $100 credit to miniatures.com!

We are admittedly a little bit ahead of the game but that’s because we want to get you all excited and truly hope you will be inspired to join along with us.  Also, we are truly so excited.  I can’t think of anything else these days… You want dinner kids?  Fix yourselves some cheerios!  I am busy painting tiny furniture!

Our own dollhouse has been incredibly fun so far, and Emmy and I have worked side by side to design and create.  I’ve been sharing little sneak peeks on instagram, but in case you missed it, here’s a little something to whet your appetite.  Emmy and I found some adorable artwork this weekend and a bed this weekend.  We hit Joann’s and found the perfect fabric and we sewed new bedding together.

dt cassie

We’re carrying the exterior colors through the interiors because we want to keep the dollhouse on display in our dining room, and I want Emmy to have easy access to playing with it.

Dollhouse in Dining Room

The others have also been sharing little teasers.  Alice scored some of the cutest furniture pieces!  I love how her style translates perfectly to her dollhouse.

dt alice

Anu had to put her entire house back together again, and she gave it a lovely facelift in the process.  The little squirrel family is enjoying it!dt anu

And Emy is killing me with these little chairs!!!  I am in love!dt emy

Alright, so today is March 1.  You have one month to find yourself a dollhouse and start making plans!  Who’s in?

I wonder if the Emmy/Emy is confusing for anyone…

I am afraid once I start I won’t be able to stop. Midnight, there’s Bliss crafting up her mini room. Sleep for two hours, start again, because I get that obsessed with stuff. I need a couple things done to my blank canvas, if I can talk Brawn into doing that for me, I will start in the morning. Mine is sort of a Brownstone style, minus the actual Brownstone exterior. What’s that called, like a thin tall house?

oh, goodness–so excited about this! I have a dollhouse in my basement that I’ve been meaning to work on with Gus….uhh, ever since we bought it for him when he was 7. IIRC, there was going to be a Haunted Mansion themed room. We shall see. Time is in short supply around here this spring.

I just love everything about this. My dad built a dollhouse for me when I was little (he’s an architect and did a great job), and one of my favorite activities with my mom used to be making miniature food with sculpey (remember that stuff?). My mom, who was a sculpture major in college, would make the most beautiful and intricate tiny pastries out of clay. Every time I check in with your dollhouse project I remember how much fun I had with miniatures when I was little.

We don’t have kids and we don’t have the space to do a dollhouse just for my nostalgia, so… check back in ten years and maybe I’ll have finally started on one!
