Hello and welcome to my eclectic Christmas Tour Part 1! (To see my kitchen and porch in part 2, click here). I am so excited to be participating in this year’s 12 Days of Holiday Homes again hosted by Jenny at Evolution of Style and Amy at 11 Magnolia Lane.  You can find last year’s tour here, but if you visited then I can tell you this year’s is totally different.  And if this is your first visit here, hi! I am Cassie and I love to create a happy and livable home on a budget for myself, my husband, my son and daughter, and our 3 rescue dogs.  I don’t know about you, but I love to change things year after year so that no two Christmases are alike in my house.  Today I will be sharing my master bedroom, dining room, living room, and kids’ bedrooms with you, and if you are looking for more inspiration be sure to visit Rachael at This is Our Bliss, who is also showing you her modern and glamorous home today.

12 Days of Holiday Homes(I am also sharing my post at Jennifer Rizzo’s Link party and Nesting Place)holiday-housewalk-2016-linky-partyGrab your coffee or glass of wine, put your feet up, and get ready to stay awhile.  We’re going to start in the master bedroom today, which I know is a funny place to start in, but this year it’s my favorite. I’ve added a shoppable gallery at the bottom of the post for you.  It contains affiliate links.

modern-bohemian-christmas-bedroomOf course the real star of the show currently is the Christmas tree in our room.  I was very lucky and found a vintage flocked tree at a flea market a few years ago.Christmas Seating Area in Bedroom

We always decorate a live family tree, but this one has become the tree I make mine year after year.  This year I made a peace sign topper and a “peace, love, joy” banner which you can read more about here. I’ve also created a seating area where we can sit and read or share a night cap.  (Anyone for Irish coffee?)  The pillows on the chairs were new additions this fall that I found at Nest Fest from Dressing Room Interiors… I loved their cozy cabin vibe, especially that A-frame house.

As you can see in the background, my accordion rack got the addition of a Moravian star garland my parents gave me several years ago. I love its natural simplicity.  And that cute arrow bag from Indigo Tangerine has come in so handy this shopping season!Moravian Star Garland

I’ve also set up a little wrapping station using a vintage black and gold trash can (similar here) to hold my Christmas wrapping paper.  I sit on the floor in here watching movies while I wrap gifts.Modern Boho Christmas BedroomAnd on the dresser I added minimal decor in the form of some Christmas ornaments… it’s the hand that decorates the tree.Vintage Hand with ornamentsEven though the tree is the star in here, my personal favorite is my bed… I just love how cozy it feels right now, and its Christmas adornments.Neutral Christmas BedroomAbove the bed I’ve hung a beautiful and fragrant Three Cedars Wreath from Lynch Creek Farm. I go to bed every night before Chris, and I fall asleep by the light of the tree and with the fresh scent of cedar calming me.  I simply used a wreath hanger on my curtain rod to hang the wreath.Wreath over bedTo make the wreath a little more “me” I hung my DIY dream catcher in its center. I also added a banner I made for our mantle several years ago in gold glitter paper.  I usually put it out at New Year’s but it just felt right here.  For times gone by…. Chris and I have been married for 13 years and this banner makes me think of all of the good times we have had, even though I know the best is yet to come!  They just keep getting better.Wreath with Dreamcatcher

For Auld Lang Syne BannerAnd my favorite view… I just love how it all looks reflecting back from my mirror.  And I have to tell you, after having this fresh cedar wreath above my nose this Christmas, I don’t think I can ever go back to not having one there.Bedroom reflected in gold mirror

On my own dresser, I didn’t add any Christmas decor.  It’s sort of in a permanent minimal and natural state which works in all seasons… a white deer is always there as well as my black antlers and silver antler hook, but they feel festive this time of year.
vintage-modern-bedroom-christmasNow that you’ve seen my favorite space of the house, let’s head to the living room, where we congregate as a family to watch holiday movies and play games.  Snowball is here to welcome you.  She’s our deaf miniature schnoodle that joined our family last Christmas.  You can read her story here. She’s been such a sweet addition to our little family.Snowball in Living RoomWe live in a smaller house, and we don’t have a family and living room… just one space that is both as well as an office area for my husband.  So fitting the Christmas tree in each year is interesting, but we manage!Eclectic Christmas Living RoomOf course, you can’t see the tree above… We’ve squeezed it (as well as all of our plants that had to come in for the winter!) into a corner of the room next to our gray sofa.Christmas tree in small spaceI’ll be sharing more about our tree on Friday, but it’s full of special ornaments and memories, and this year we topped it with an owl that Emmy brought home after shopping with my parents.  She wanted to put it on the tree so badly, and it seemed to be a great size for the top. (It’s similar to this).owl-topper-tree

As you can see, I also am pretty sentimental and pull out the kids special handmade pieces each year, like the hand tree Emmy made in preschool.

In this space, I based my colors off of the pillows I wanted to use in black, white, and gold.  I found all of my pillows on Amazon. (I love that place!)Gray Sofa with Black, White The navy vintage sofa has the same colors going on with the addition of some gray to balance out the other sofa.  Vintage Eclectic Living Room at ChristmasAll of these colors are brought together in our mantle… the black, white, gold, and even a touch of blue.Black White Gold Christmas DecorOur stockings always go out the week of Christmas so they aren’t hung yet, but I’ve used their hooks to hang my many garlands.Christmas Garlands on Mantle As you can see, I love to layer garlands, and the vintage fringe stays up almost all the time.Black, White, Gold Mantle at ChristmasI wasn’t sure what I would do with my mantle this year, but then I came across a pair of vintage dove like birds at Sweet Clover and decided they were the perfect jumping off point, and I am calling them turtle doves.  (You can find some similar ones on etsy here).  I added some disco ball ornaments, vintage books,  and mercury glass pillar candles.christmas-mantle-hearth-decorOn the coffee table, I added an awesome constellation globe from Mova globes.  When the sun hits it, it spins on its own!  (I actually entered a design contest they are hosting and you can vote for me here– I am waaaaay behind. 😉 ) I also added silver and gold vintage ornaments, LED lights, and silver candles in these glass star candle holders I found at Sweet Clover.mova-globe-silver-goldWe’ll be heading into the dining room next, which you can see through the doorway in the living room here.  You can also see our little office area, and if you look closely, our stockings currently hang on our vintage bookcase.Eclectic Christmas Living RoomNow let’s head into the dining room where the black, white, gold palette continues.

Catcher is just going to make himself comfortable on the daybed while we look around, I guess.
Catcher on Daybed
This room is always one of my favorites to decorate seasonally, and lends well to the colors I am using this year.  If you know my house and look closely below, you can see one major change!
Black and white holiday dining room
For the tablecloth, I used a panel of dotty black and white fabric I found at Ikea.  It set the tone for the whole thing, and I love it.
black-white-vintage-modern-dining-room
On the daybed, as you can see, I added black and white graphic pillows and one brown fur one to warm it up.  Above it I hung paper fans in white and gold that I found at Target. (FYI they didn’t stick well, so I hot glued them shut).
Daybed in black and white and gold
The bar cart got a little merrier with the addition of a vintage Santa Claus with his clothes long gone… guess he’s been sipping the whiskey a bit much. I also added a star garland from Target‘s dollar spot.
Vintage Santa on bar cart
On top of our cabinet where we actually store the liquor, I added some vintage white flocked deer and some yarn trees my mom made as well as a faux gift.  The peace sign I made stays there all year, and I hung the “love” sign I found at a flea market a while back.

Boho Style Christmas Decor

I had the most fun setting the table in black, gold and white with the ikea fabric as the tablecloth.  I added my grandmother’s vintage dishes, white and metallic napkins I had on hand, a little bottle brush tree, and a black goblet to each place setting.

>gold-black-white-wood-christmas-table

In the center of the table I added vintage brass deer, a variety of vintage and DIY candlesticks with white candles, and these modern wooden trees I found at Target.  I also added a couple strands of gold ball LED lights from Target.brass-deer-christmas-table
Around each place setting I sprinkled little metallic gold circles for some extra shine.black-gold-white-wood-christmas-table
If you look at the view below you can peek out into my hallway which features my DIY advent calendar on the chalkboard wall.
modern-rustic-dining-room-christmas-table
I’ll share that in a minute… first, one last look at the dining room… Here you can see how it is situated and flows into the hall and living room.  I try to keep the main floor as cohesive as possible.
Eclectic Dining Room at Christmas
Now before we head to the kids spaces, let me show you the advent calendar I created this year that is in the hallway between the living and dining room.  I drew a Christmas tree on the chalkboard then hung my gold chains from last year’s mantle as a garland.
DIY Advent Calendar with chains and treat boxes on chalkboard wall
I added black and gold treat boxes and wrapped treats in gold tissue paper.  (In case you are wondering what the treats are, Sawyer’s days have mini pokemon, and Emmy’s days have little tumbed gemstones.)  To hang them I poked holes in the treat boxes and used ornament hooks.ornament hooks hand treat boxes on chain
On the door next to this, which is actually our front door, I added a little banner from Target’s dollar spot. (Can you tell I did a lot of shopping there!)The best is yet to come banner
Just opposite this wall is our entryway mirror and live edge shelf.  I added a few little decorations like my vintage white hand and LED lights, as well as a pair of mirrored vintage birds and a plant.
Fur Stockings on Live Edge Shelf
I used tea cup hooks to hand the dog’s faux fur stockings.  Catcher has the naughty tag because he’s a little crazy.  Snowball’s is white, and Jake’s is brown.  (FYI Jake is not in this tour at all because these days he spends most of his time sleeping in his bed… he’s a 13 year old basset beagle mix, and my little furry soulmate.)Teacup hooks hang fur stockings
Catcher doesn’t look naughty, but trust me… he’s crazy!  It all comes from a place of wanting to love you though.
Dogs in entry
Time to head into the kids rooms. Sawyer’s room decor I kept really minimal this year.  His room is still embarrassingly in progress, but I hung my Ikea Christmas tree panel above his bed, and it did just the trick to make it merry.

Boy's room at Christmas

On his bed, he always has the blue and white pillows as well as the lego Star Wars pillows my mom made for him, but I added a fun penguin pillow as well.  His plush throw is the blanket he uses ALL THE  TIME.  It’s his absolute favorite.
You can shop his room below.  The tapestry is no longer available at Ikea, but I found a similar one on etsy.
I have one more space to share with you today, and that is Emmy’s room.  She wanted to do her own bedroom decorations this year for the holidays, so I let her take what she wanted and do as she wished.  I simply tidied up so I could take some photos to share.  If you have been following along here, you know her room was recently made over with the One Room Challenge.  If you look really closely at the photo below, perhaps you can spot her Christmas touches?
Eclectic Girl's Room
My favorite is her dry erase cabinet… She went to town with it, and I just love it!  Her little “Jesus Christ was born!” melts me.  She loves VW bugs and dreams of that for her first car, so she also used my vintage bug with bottle brush tree here.
Dry Erase Cabinet in Kids ROom

Above her desk she added a little faux wreath, and on the desk a sketch of a horse with a wreath around his neck.  And on that notepad is her list for Santa with 492 items.  Good luck with that, sista.Wreath over vanity

Lastly, on her nightstand, she added a couple of vintage inspired tinsel trees with her face planters.  Trees on nightstand

You can shop her room here:

Your home exudes personality. I love how YOU it all is…doesn’t look like anyone else’s, just yours. And that is what makes it totally perfect. It’s super fun you change things up from year to year. We do too. Would feel too stodgy and boring otherwise, I think. Merry Christmas to you guys!!!

I love both of your tours this year Cassie!! It’s so fun to watch each other’s styles evolve over the years; and I feel like you’ve taken your home to a whole new level over the past year. Enjoy a well-deserved holiday break with your beautiful family!

We’re going to start today’s tour in the kitchen, which is the heart of our home.
