Eclectic Spring Home Tour: Blues in the Living Room

Happy Thursday guys!  To be honest, it just isn’t yet feeling like Spring outside, but I’ve grown weary of winter, and have started to bring a bit of color and spring vibes into my home.  Today I am joining 24 other bloggers in a Spring Home Tour, hosted by the fabulous Monica, whose tour is the actually first stop today!  Her home is a unique blend of modern and glam, and I always love seeing what she’s been up to.  You can also find links to all of the other bloggers on the tour at the bottom of this post.  As for me, I have slowly been adding in color and seasonal changes in between work and doctor appointments, but I managed to have one room totally ready (and clean!) to share with you today.  After a bit of decluttering and making some small changes over the last couple of weeks, I am excited to share our eclectic Spring home tour of the living room, featuring shades of my favorite color, blue, and some of my favorite seascapes that inspired the changes. (This post contains some affiliate links and I’ve added a shoppable gallery in case you’re interested in shopping the style).
Eclectic Blue Vintage Modern Living Room
These days we are on a very strict budget, so I have been working with things I already own to make my home stay seasonally inspired and fresh, and even to DIY, as in the denim boho pouf slipcover I shared earlier this week.  The last time we saw this room, it was grounded with a black and white bold graphic rug (which has relocated to the playroom and I’ll be sharing that soon as well!).  Last year, Antique Textiles sent me this fabulous gray and aqua rug, and I decided to bring it back out this spring.  They only sell wholesale, but I found their rug for sale at West Elm and it’s on special right now!
Eclectic Aqua and Gray Living Room
The change of rugs snowballed into my wanting to change the art behind my navy vintage sofa.  A long time ago, I had a gorgeous seascape gallery wall in my dining room, but I grew tired of it and took it down.  Many of the pieces have since been sold, but I held onto some of my favorites.  I decided that a smaller simple seascape was the way to go on that wall.   I plan to hang it a bit lower, but at the moment I am working with the existing screw in the wall. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Once that seascape was up, a vintage paint by number my mom got me at the Country Living Fair in 2012 was added to the opposite wall, and they both bring in the colors of the rug.

After the seascapes were hung, I decided to bring in more of those beachy vibes, and added a large conch to my coffee table.
Eclectic Coffee Table Styling
A few years ago I purchased some large vintage green glass floats at the Lucketts Antique Market.  I hauled those out and added them to my DIY industrial built in shelves, which I had already majorly decluttered. (If you’re interested, you can find my tutorial for those here. And of course, the shelves are topped off with plants as well.

I decided to create balance and do something very similar on the opposite side of the fireplace, and really like the current symmetry.  I plan to get some bins for underneath to store all the accessories and things we will need for baby boy on the main level.  Those will hide all the cables and wires on the right side as well.
Black painted fireplace with DIY built ins
Above the shelves on the right side, I also have some hanging plants in the corner and I love the way the greenery drapes down.

Plants are a major part of our home and with temperatures still freezing outside, they’re all in our sunny living room and dining room. In the opposite corner of the living room, I have a $2 yard sale wicker shelf, and more plants on a yard sale plant stand.
Eclectic Boho Living Room
This cactus has grown about a foot or so since I bought it a couple of years ago! As you can see, Snowball is really impressed by that.
Vintage plant stand
On the wicker shelf, I added all of the colorful kids pottery they’ve made over the years at elementary school.  These pieces are such a tradition at our school and I’ve loved adding to the collection.  They’ve lived on the industrial pipe shelves, but with a new baby coming, I wanted to make sure they stayed safe.

We’ve got a dinosaur, a crab, a couple of turtles and more.

They are just so precious to me!
Kids pottery creations
As you can see, there’s also a tropical yucca in this corner that a friend gave me last fall after it wasn’t doing well in her home.  I am looking forward to taking it outside for some sunshine and humidity this summer which will do it wonders.
Vintage wicker shelf and plant corner in living room
Another space that actually features a pottery piece made by Emmy is our spring mantle.  I kept it really simple with plants and garlands, and a touch of the season in Emmy’s pottery and my swan planters.
Black Boho Spring Mantle
I recently added one garland, a black and white triangle felt garland my friend Haley made for me.  She just opened an etsy shop where she’s selling them, too!  I love their eclectic vibe.
Collection of garlands
On the left side of the mantle sits a plant that needs a little water (oops), and Emmy’s pottery imprinted flower… it’s the perfect Spring touch!
Eclectic Spring mantle
And on the right side sits an aqua vintage swan planter and a little miniature white vintage swan dish.  (I’ve sourced similar planters below in a shoppable gallery for you!)

I know I went a little photo crazy in this post, but I was truly excited to share with you all of the fun changes I’ve made for Spring.

Next week I’ll be sharing our kitchen and dining room with you, assuming I can get them clean in time. ๐Ÿ˜‰  Here’s a little peek into the dining room from the living room….

Thank you so much for stopping in to see our spring living room today!  We’re ready for a nap now.

Your home always seems to come alive and really shine in spring and summer – maybe it’s because of all the plants! Needless to say, I love the boho look here, and it all feels a touch crisper than usual, so I love that.
I can’t wait to see what this new season (metaphorical and literal) brings for you and the fam <3

my way is to buy the easy ones… snake plants, spider plants, pothos… snake plants are super easy and the other two will get wilty without water. i tend to do well with plants that wilt and show me they need it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just love all the plants in this room! Looking at it makes me really wish I had any ability whatsoever to keep plants alive. I do have a snake plant in my bathroom that’s been around for quite awhile….maybe I should just fill my entire house with snake plants! ๐Ÿ˜‰

i used to kill them all but now i find plants that are relatively easy to keep alive so i know you can do it! get some pothos, more snake plants, and spider plants… they are the easiest!
