Happy Thursday! It’s September 18th and we are just a few days away from officially kicking off the Fall season. I am so excited to be bringing you some Fall decor in my own home as part of #EclecticallyFall Home Tours. I am honored that Kelly from Eclectically Vintage invited me to be one of the stops on the Fall home tour she put together, sharing a total of 15 amazing home!
Fall happens to be my favorite time of year. I love hiking on crispy leaves, and early morning runs in cool air, followed by a steaming cup of Pumpkin Spice coffee. Nothing makes me happier than the first day I can wear my favorite boots and plaid flannel shirt. I love the smells, the tastes, and sounds… and there’s nothing more fun than dreaming up Halloween costumes with my kids. I could write an entire ode to Fall, but I’ll stop here so we can get to the tour.
If you are stopping over here from Ella Claire, thank you so much for coming by! (And if you are starting here today, be sure to check back at Ella Claire to see her home.)
As I started to gather my photos to share with you today, I realized that it might be visual overload, so you will have to come back next Thursday to see the rest. Today I want to share with you my dining room (which by the way is entered in Apartment Therapy’s Room for Color contest if you want to vote for it!), living room, entry and playroom. This Fall, I decided to go very simple with my Fall decor and just brought in some natural and textural touches.
Let’s start in the dining room, which happens to be one of my favorite places in my home.
In the corner of the dining room is an antique oak secretary which we use as a bar. I’ve added some dried hydrangeas, as well as a live clover plant which reminds me of Fall with its deep aubergine colored leaves. Gold is great any time of year, in my opinion, but it seems to fit right in with Fall.
On the wall aboce the secretary I hung some thrifted art that actually has meaning to me…. there’s William Shakespeare which is perfect for a literature loving Anglophile, and a knight in shining armor on a …. unicorn! I have a little thing about unicorns, so it’s perfect. On the wall next to the secretary I hung vintage brass birds, which remind me that it’s time for them to start flying south.
The midcentury buffet is one of my favorite pieces of the room. Again, I kept it very simple. The wire boat is a flea market find which stays here, but I flanked it with aqua glass bottles, and added peacock feathers and dried silver dollars that I found on a walk one day. I also added a couple of white pumpkins I had on hand.
I just love how the silver dollars catch the light.
On the center of the dining table, I’ve filled a bamboo tray with gourds freshly picked from my friend’s garden. I love the warmth and color they bring to the space.
Here you can see how the gourds bring out some of the warmer colors in my paintings. From the dining room, we pass through a very small entry on our way to the living room. I would love a grander entry with more room, but we make the best of it!
I have a coastal blue vintage desk paired with a gold mirror, and a bushel basket serves as a shoe collection center. (Of course the puppy thinks it’s his prize basket!)
I used natural elements here- pheasant and wild turkey feathers. I added brass deer as well- if you follow me already you know how much I love my brass animals! In the background you can catch a glimpse of my sharpie sheep wall. The little houndstooth pumpkin came from my friend, Kathy, at All About Vignettes.I love to use vintage books to add texture and variations in height. I often use my gold leafed bottles as vases, or to display branches or feathers.
The wall opposite of this is our chalkboard wall. I change out quotes here often and chose one for the season. Emmy drew some pumpkins along the bottom for me.
Following along that wall is the kids backpack zone. Of course, they were at school when I took these photos…. so no backpacks at the moment. Chris gave me the brass animal hooks for Christmas a couple years back.
Now we head into the living room, which is where we snuggle on cold Fall nights watching movies.
The mantle is one of my favorite places to make seasonal changes. I always have to work around the TV, but luckily it’s not too noticeable now that I’ve painted the fireplace black.
On the left side, I used vintage books, gold leafed bottles, antlers, ad dried hydrangeas.
How cute is this vintage brass squirrel I found just in time for the season?
I don’t believe in symmetry when it comes to my mantle and home, but I do crave balance. The right side of the mantle also features books, bottles, dried hydrangeas, antlers, and this time a vintage bird.
The little bird is the right size and colors for this space!
I also like to place some pieces on my hearth to flow with the mantle. This found antique sign stays in place until it’s time to use the fireplace! (You can also catch a glimpse of my industrial pipe built ins!)
On the left side of the hearth I filled a thrifted basket with a found mexican blanket (in the same colors as the books on my mantle) as well as a nubby gray blanket.
And on the right side, I placed a stump with my found big vintage brass deer. I love these guys! I should also mention that the pom pom garland was a gift from my bestie when we moved into this home.
The living room also features a desk and chalkboard, and again, I like to change the chalkboard up for the season.
On this chalkboard is usually where we write our seasonal to-do lists.
And of course the coffee table got a little Fall addition in the owl, too!
Now, we are going to head down into the basement where the playroom is located. Next week I will officially kick off a playroom redo, but today I am giving you a little sneak peek. Thanks to World Market I was able to add the perfect cozy touches to get a jump start. They have some of the most amazing home decor that’s perfect for the cozy look I am creating in there, and work well for Fall, but also year round.
These amber velvet pillows are AMAZING- they are a soft golden velvet. They would work well on the couch as well, but because this is an area that kids play in, they prefer to use them as floor pillows, and their large size lends perfectly to that.
From the selection of area rugs, I chose this Kaia area rug, which is double sided (which appeals to my practical side as kid tend to make messes!). I layered it on an existing rug for a cozier feel and to help define the space. We ditched the coffee table has kids need space to play more than they need a coffee table!
And of course, you may have noticed the new light in the corner. I was torn between many of the pendants & chandeliers they offer, but eventually settled on the capiz hanging pendant. (It literally took me almost an hour to make a decision!) . And please disregard the awkward wood trim- change is a-coming!
With all of these touches from World Market, the playroom is already feeling much cozier, and less like a dungeon. I know the kids will be spending more time down there this Fall as the weather drops, so I’m excited for them to have a great place to hang out.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my Eclectically Fall Home Tour! Be sure to start tomorrow with The Wood Grain Cottage!
