Warning- loads and loads of pictures and information! You have my permission not to read and just look at the pictures. 🙂
Back in August, before we even lived in this house, or even knew this was the house we would be living in, Emmy and I sat down together and dreamed up her new room. We dreamed up aqua walls, pink and red accents. The room has evolved all on its own, and is not the room we dreamed up. It has white walls, not aqua, but it has grown and evolved over the last couple months into its own design. The color palette we started with is still there, just with little splashes of other colors as I am finding myself drawn to kids rooms that are white and have pops of color. Also, her room is on the North facing side of the house and has only one window, so it is not as light and bright as Sawyer’s room which has two windows and is on the South facing side of the house.
So let’s take another look at where we started the week we moved in….
Ok, are you ready for the afters? Let me just say that the only thing I still want to do is make a cord cover for Emmy’s chandelier, but I can’t decide what color. 🙂 So until I decide it will stay plain. Now on to the afters!
Looking into her room from the hallway….
Standing by the window looking at her room…
Standing by her vanity nook and looking back at the closet doors and window…
Now let’s get into some of the details, shall we?
Let’s start with the bed area…
The quilt was what inspired the room. I originally ordered it because it had the colors I wanted and I liked the deer. It is from Urban Outfitters but is no longer available. We knew we wanted to move her to a full bed as well, so I had been on the lookout for a full vintage/antique bed I could makeover. Then one day it hit me that my friend Heather had an antique iron bed painted a blue that would work… She had used it in Andrew’s room (He is Captain CORAgeous), but had not liked the height for him. I called her and sure enough she still had it! She wanted to give it to me, but I told her no way- I made a donation to Cora instead. 🙂
Next to her bed is a nightstand we used to use as a side table in our old playroom. On top of it sit some books, a fabulous mercury glass toadstool from my fabulous friend (and new mom!), Lisa. A thrifted and painted white squirrel also sits there. (And those are Emmy’s bedtime blankies folded on the floor under the nightstand).
Above her bed, the papier mache antlers I purchased on clearance hang in a frame. The frame was white but since I painted her walls white, I wanted the frame to stand out. Just in time, my pal Julie at Vintage Shabby Chicks sent me a sample of Cece Caldwell’s Carolina Sun Yellow to try! It was the PERFECT yellow to make the yellow in the quilt pop! We also hung some of Emmy’s “jewels” on the antlers for a little feminine and fun touch. I also added a couple of pillows I made a couple years ago from a vintage quilt. I found them when I was unpacking (they had never sold) and I thought they might be a fun touch.
To the right of Emmy’s bed is her little French inspired footstool she has to use to get into bed. Atop it sits one of her favorite bedtime buddies…. She lays her pillow pet on top of her pillows and sleeps with him every night.
To the right of Emmy’s bed is her faux bois vanity nook.
Her vanity features this cute little squirrel dish from Urban Outfitters Santa,a birdie necklace stand from Marshall’s,
(to the left on the wall) a garden gate looking piece that holds hair bows,
and some rock treasures, a silly photo of her and her friends, and of course every girl needs a sweet pair of shades.
To the right of the nook, I hung some awesome metal butterflies on the wall that my parents gave Emmy for Christmas.
Moving along that wall is her “baby section”, dresser, ledges I built with all sorts of woodland creatures and art, and her stuffed animal basket. I ended up trading dressers with her, so the ombre dresser is now in my closet. This one had been in my old bedroom for a few years and is easier for her to handle. Under the dresser you can see the awesome poufs that my awesome and crafty friend Andi made for my kids last year. They like to tote these into our room to hang out on the floor.
I just got the little yellow bunny last week for 35 cents at the thrift shop I adore… isn’t he cute?
To the right is the door (which will be painted when I do the hallway) and at the bottom of the door sits a cute little sleeping fawn that my sweet friend Ali sent to Emmy.
And then we are back to the closet doors, and her toadstool table. You might notice the table has new chairs. These chairs actually came from the playroom (meaning I got some “new” chairs for the playroom!) and their color was perfect for her room! And of course, there is a friendly gnome sitting on the sill.
Here are some of the other details of the room
