Happy Wednesday! Fall was in the air last week, and then suddenly we’re back to the 80s. However, I still felt inspired to bring a little fall into my home. I’ve shared some little peeks on instagram, and am going to be sharing a few of the spaces I’ve decorated for the season over the next week or so here. As I mentioned, I am not participating in any more tour hops, so today, this is just me opening my home to you. There’s no pressure, and it’s laid back, so I invite you to kick your feet up on my hassock and enjoy the fall home tour of my living room. (I’ve included affiliate links to the items I’ve purchased over the years).
I am working on a really limited budget at the moment, so I used only things I already owned to make this space feel a little warmer and cozier for the season. Rather than adding a lot of pumpkins and fall flowers, I brought in the season with textures, textiles and colors. Previously we had an aqua and gray kilim layered over our Nuloom diamond pattern rug from Overstock. For this fall, I’ve brought back the red Persian rug I scored at an auction for $14. I love the richness it adds, and layered rugs always make a space feel instantly more comfortable.
On the coffee table, I added my brown leather tray I scored last year on clearance at Marshalls. It holds a stack of coffee table design books, a little tray, a plant, and our Black Hills globe from Mova Globes.
I used vintage amber bottles I’ve had for a while to decorate my mantle. Some of them I’ve been using to propagate pothos, so I kept those with their greenery, and added feathers to the others. If you’ve seen this mantle, you’ve seen the fringe! I just can’t seem to break from it… It’s been going strong for almost a few years now.
On the heart I added a larger amber bottle I found this weekend that I’ll actually be bringing to Sweet Clover (just borrowing until our next sale!) I brought my letter board (a gift from Chris last Christmas) to the hearth and added an early fall quote. In my straw tote, I added a Meican blanket to tie in the warm colors of the Persian rug.
The amber glass bottles give a moody and earthy feel against the black of the brick fireplace. If you look closely, you can see the giant root system the pothos is producing in the bottle.
The mantle is always my favorite space to decorate seasonally, but our sofas always get a little love in the form of pillows. By now I have a stash of cushion covers and I just change them out for the season.
On the navy sofa I’ve kept a nubby cream colored pillow from Antique Textiles and added in a black and white buffalo check and “We’re All Mad Here” pillow I purchased from Amazon last Fall.
Across the room on the gray West Elm sofa, I’ve added another buffalo check, a Native American skull for a touch of color, and a black sort of creepy bare tree silhouette. The tree was actually a gift from my mother-in-law after I happened to share on the blog how much I loved it.
The skull in a headdress pillow brings all of the colors that are currently in the room together in a unique and vibrant way… it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really love it.
As you can see, I’ve also started bringing in my plants for the season. Once the cold temperatures come, this space will have even more greenery! That happily ever after canvas photo print is one of my favorite possessions, and today happens to be our 14th anniversary! Our life is far from any fairytale, and would read more like humorous chick lit , but we’ve made this life together and I wouldn’t trade it for the fairytale.
The fresh greens give our home so much life. I can’t believe I used to fear houseplants! I used to believe I couldn’t keep any of them alive, but now I’m a success story. Of course I’ve lost a few along the way, but for the most part, they’re alive and kicking.
Thank you for stopping by today to check out our simple fall living room tour!
I hope that what you gather from my home are useful ideas that show you how to create an inviting and cozy seasonal space without breaking the bank! I’ll be back soon to share our porch, kitchen, and dining room as well. Enjoy your day… I am off to sweat it out outside, and think fall thoughts…. maybe that will bring the crisp weather my way.
I’ve created a little shopping area in case you want to find anything I’ve used in my living room. 🙂
