Feel Good Friday 45
Hello, friend! I hope you have had a wonderful week. We started the week off with Chris’ birthday which was the perfect excuse to make one of my own favorite desserts that happens to be one of his as well…. classic apple crisp. I was instructed to “not make a healthy version.” Ha! I did as I was told and it was delicious with all of the butter and sugar. Of course, it also has oats and apples in it, so basically a good breakfast replacement. Also earlier this week, the heavens opened up and angels sang their glory upon me as I received notice that Wilder’s preschool is reopening mid October. Hallelujah! I love that kid so much, but like many moms, I am ready for some space. The class sizes will be limited, and he will be required to wear a mask, and they will have a serious protocol, but we are going to be there for it! To be totally transparent, I had really been struggling here the first couple weeks of school, and felt so incredibly down and lost. I had already started to feel much better by the time that email came, but it kicked my spirits into high gear and gave me hope that I will once again be able to focus on some of my own goals in life aside from being mom. All that being said, it’s been a great week and I have some truly amazing things to share with you that have helped me tremendously lately.
A Good Laugh
Ok, so this didn’t actually help me in any way, but it made me laugh. If you know me, you know that I get out and run 4-5 times a week at 5:30 am. I do it at that time of day because the world is quiet and peaceful, I am free from distraction, and I can just focus on myself in the moment. However, this meme cracked me up and I just had to share, because although it’s not why I do it, it is sadly accurate. HA! Thank you, Jacob Reinecker for that.
Easy and Delicious Tomato Soup
With the weather changing, we’ve been in that soup mood on the cooler nights, and it looks like we’ll be in for some of those this weekend! I happened to spy this tomato soup recipe recently on one of my favorite blogs, Half Baked Harvest. (Her Sunday morning posts are my favorite- I look forward to them each week!) It was really simple to make and absolutely delicious. I made it vegan by omitting the cheese, and then at the end I added vegan cheese to mine and Chris added regular cheese to his. Our very picky children even tried it and said it wasn’t bad, which means it was terrific.
Front Door Painting
Sometimes I get stuck in my head and the story I tell myself is that life is too busy and I don’t have time for projects. The truth is that telling myself that gets in the way of doing things. After we worked to install our mantle, I felt really inspired and motivated to start tackling some smaller things I felt I could do on my own. While I still love the pink we had on our front door, I was craving a change for the fall, and decided to go for it! I will share what color I selected next week, but as you can see above, I used Sherwin Williams Visualizer tool to use an existing photo of my porch and “try on” different colors. The best part about this project was that I was able to paint the door while Wilder happily played with a shovel, dump truck, and a pile of dirt in our front yard. That moment showed me what’s possibly to get done even with a toddler by my side.
Helpful & Inspiring Podcast
I listened to this week’s episode of Don’t Keep Your Day Job podcast featuring Jim Kwik, and it was SO good I had to listen twice. The first time I was out walking one morning with Wilder, and he said so many things and had so many tricks about mindset and unlocking your own superpowers. I wanted to replay so that I could take notes and truly let everything he said sink in. His own story was truly so inspiring as well, as he talked about a teacher once telling his whole class he had a “broken brain” and how that impacted how he thought about his own intelligence. It took years and a traumatic injury before he was able to break through limiting belief his teacher had implanted. This podcast is always a favorite, but I would say that this is one of the best episodes out there.
Coaching to Unlock Your Potential (at a huge discount!)
Last spring into the summer, I worked with Chandra of Moonshine Coaching and went through her Afraid to Aligned Course. Throughout the weeks we worked together, she guided me through doing so much inner work that the vision of myself for the future became clear, and more importantly, I began to recognize my own limiting beliefs that stand in my way. We worked together to reword them into mantras that help me, and each morning I write some of them down to start my day. By the end of the session, I felt much more confident in who I am as well as much more in tune with myself and the universe. I have a tendency to want to control the outcome and plan plan plan, but sometimes you have to be still and trust the process, and Chandra helped me tremendously with that. The course is normally $397, but she’s offering it right now for a limited time for $197, and I wanted to share that with you because it’s SO worth it if you are feeling stuck, lost, or confused. I actually loved it so much that I signed up for the more intense follow up class, Soul-Aligned CEO, and we started last week, which was perfect timing because it really hit just when I needed it. We’ve started with so much more inner work and I’ve been learning a lot about my strengths, who I am, and my potential. Chandra created my YouMap using Human Design, and it’s SOOOO incredibly interesting! It’s also really crazy to think about the things that come naturally to each of us, don’t come naturally to others which is kind of an eye-opening thought as we tend to take those things for granted in our own lives. Anyhow, we are two weeks in, and already my spirit is lifted, I know more about myself and my vision for my life, and I am ready to level up. In two weeks we’ll be brainstorming what I can do with my potential, and I am so excited about that! I adore Chandra and she’s been so good for me (and isn’t she the cutest!), so I wanted to share… this is NOT sponsored or anything and I am paying for my coaching because investing in yourself is worth it. You are worth it.
Well, my friend, I hope you have a fabulous weekend! Chris and I are planning a hiking date and sushi dinner Sunday to celebrate our 17th anniversary. I am very much looking forward to a challenging mountain hike followed by replenishing and stuffing myself silly with our favorite food. Nothing says 17 years of marriage like pigging out together. Much love to you!
