Last night was our monthly Friday Night Wine & Design at my house, but before I get into that I want to tell you about the swinging emotions I have had going on in the last two days.
It started Thursday when I got an email from the Nate Berkus Show. Before you get all excited, I am not going to be on it! They called me and we chatted, but they weren’t very clear about what direction they were going on in a segment and I don’t think they knew yet. Either way, I was so excited that they even found me and that I was just on their radar! I got a call Friday saying they were going in a different direction. Actually, my husband got the call while I was at Sawyer’s school reading to his class, and he delivered the news to me when I got home. Bummer. I wasn’t upset, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little disappointed.
But then just an hour later I got a call from my dad. He said “Now, I don’t want you to worry.” So immediately I worried. My mom was brought to the hospital yesterday afternoon by a colleague. She was having trouble standing up straight, and then had trouble breathing. They did an MRI and an EKG and there was nothing that they could find. She, like me, gets migraines, and they think that what happened was linked to what causes her migraines. The feeling she had, loss of control, caused her to have a panic attack they think, which caused the inability to breathe. She is home and is fine, but it was a scary call to receive. I am so thankful that she works with people who really care about her and were there when she needed them. And this incident put life into perspective for me and my feelings of disappointment earlier in the day seemes insignificant and unimportant. I am just so happy my mom is OK. She had planned to come to Wine & Design, and we moved here to be closer to my parents. My mom is my best friend… we talk or email almost every day. And that quick flash of a moment where the “What if?” was hanging over my head scared me. I can’t imagine not being able to email her or call her when I want to, or just drop by her office with the kids for a surprise visit.
Anyhow, I still had Wine & Design and enjoyed the time with my bottle of wine girlfriends. The theme was beachy, so people could work on any beachy projects. Jori and Heather just came to socialize, but Emily, Renee, Jen, and I all worked on some beachy styled projects.
Emily made a tray for under her toaster oven when she stores it, so crumbs don’t get all over her cabinets. She used paper strips and Mod Podge.
Renee painted a HUGE terra cotta flower pot in bright fun colors.
Jen worked on a nautical bunting which she is going to sew at home and will most likely put in her shop. I think it would be perfect for a little boy’s pirate room. Aargh, Matey!
I worked on some unfinished IKEA mirrors I found at Goodwill…. (please disregard my hideous basement floor).
I painted them all white and then gave some stripes, and gave one pink and orange flowers for Emmy. Because she asked me to, and I can’t say no to her. Once they were all painted, I distressed them all a bit as well.
It was a great night, and I had so much fun sitting around, chatting, crafting, and spending time with my friends. It was exactly what I needed last night. Thanks ladies!
Oh, and I almost forgot, Emily brought me this lovely surprise she found at the thrift shop!!!
Aren’t they the cutest? I love that my friends now think of me when they see owls. 🙂 I am not yet sure what I will do with them, but one thought is adding them to a plank of wood with some hooks below each- there are 4 members of our family and 4 owls, so it would be cute to have one represent each of us. The possibilities are endless, really!
Anyhow, thanks ladies for a great night. You were all just what the doctor ordered!
