Fugly 1970’s with French Flair, and I am a Guest!

I am so excited to be a guest today over at Welcome to the Heardmont. I am sharing my master suite bedroom and toilet.  I loved her own master suite so much that I thought it would be fun to share mine!  Seriously, if you haven’t been to Meredith’s blog, you need to pay a visit.  She is awesome.  Here’s a taste of what she has over there…

Gorgeous, huh??

So it’s going to be pretty busy around these parts in the next couple weeks with furniture makeovers galore!  This is one I got for my own house.
I picked up this cabinet this past weekend for $30 off craigslist.

Ugly?  yes.  Potential?  I think so.  I painted the exterior with Annie Sloane’s Duck Egg Blue chalk paint, waxed it, and distressed it.  I kept the interior alone for several reasons…
1) I was running out of paint.
2) I was putting white owls in it and I didn’t want them to get lost in a white background.
3) I was digging the brown and gold pattern on the back.  Seriously.

Last night Chris and I put it in the little sitting room off our kitchen.  I am not sure I am feelin’ it, but it will stay for now because it’s heavy and the chances of asking Chris to move it again are slim.  And frankly, I really don’t know what I want there.  So this will stay until I figure something else out.  Here it is, and please pardon the pics… This room has one window and this part of the house is shaded by trees, so I was having a hard time getting good pictures.

I can’t even believe that is the same piece of furniture! You have the best eye for potential!

I like the cabinet painted quite a bit. Kind of hard to tell where it is in your room. and how it fits with everything else. Looks like it would serve a good purpose for that room – games, craft supplies, or extra kitchen storage underneath?

I love love the funky interior too! Suggestion?? Paint the little chair in a similiar color as that interior.;)

I have a terrible time getting good pics of my stuff. My house is on the dark side, which is good in the hot summer months….not so good for picture taking!

    Enjoy the day!

Looks beautiful! I love the gold background inside of it. Is that like chicken coop wiring on the front? Looks very cool. Would love to see how it meshes with the rest of the room 🙂

That looks awesome! Yes, it DID have potential! My only suggestion is…. I don’t know how attached you are to having that chair there, BUT I would move the chair and center it on the wall so it doesn’t look like it’s crammed into the corner, just sayin’! Fabulousness!

    Have a wonderful Tuesday,

I really like it! I like how you painted the hardware to match, and the owls look so cute against the dark background. What does the finish feel like once it’s dry?

I think the piece is quite lovely now. I’m with Christa above in that I really like how you painted the hardware and I think leaving the interior ‘as is’ was a good choice. You did a great job, Cassie.

What a great colour, and love the wire. It really is a versatile size. I can see a piece that size fitting in several rooms in our home.
And I do know what you mean about lighting being a challenge in some rooms.

I never would have given the piece a second glance. You have a good eye …..it turned out great and shows off the elements the cabinet had. Great job!

I love the paint color, Cassie! Is the chair next to it the same color? How about angling it? Like if it was a corner-type cabinet?
