Furniture Makeover: Coastal Blue Vintage Sideboard

Happy Monday!  Did you all have a good weekend?  It was our first weekend of soccer games as the weather finally allowed, but it was FUH-REEZING.  My hips feel like old lady hips from from sitting in a chair holding myself tightly wrapped in a blanket all day.  Sunday Chris and I brought over a couple of bigger pieces to Sweet Clover for our next sale coming up in a couple weeks.  We had to get it over there this weekend as it’s getting harder and harder for me to lift and move, and we now know that the baby will be here on April 27, so time is limited!  We hauled over the white midcentury dresser I shared with you last week, and the piece I am going to show you today.  This post is going to be a pretty much no frills, no styling type, but I am just going to let this piece speak for itself, no staging necessary. 😉 Today let me show you my latest furniture makeover: coastal blue vintage sideboard. Coastal Blue Vintage Sideboard Makeover

I bought this piece from a vendor who left to have her own baby right after the February sale.  It was in great shape, and it was almost a shame to paint it, but it was just sort of lackluster to me.  Once home, I sanded it down lightly and then we hauled it into my painting studio… ok, my kitchen. It’s just been so cold that I haven’t been able to work outside!  Painting in the kitchen can be a challenge because the dogs always want to be near me; keeping them away from wet paint is quite humorous!  Catcher definitely ended up with a white nose a few weeks ago.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this piece as I wanted to bring a bit more navy into my space because I always love blue, and I felt that color just fit this classic piece.  I gave it two coats of General Finishes Coastal Blue which has always been one of my favorite paint colors to use.  After it was dry, I distressed it by hand with 200 grit sandpaper, just highlighting the edges.  This paint adheres so well that just lightly distressing it was a good workout!

To seal it, I used Black Bison wax.  I’ve mentioned this one before as it’s one of my go-tos, providing a hard durable finish.  I used a clean rag to apply it, following the lines of my paint, and then buffed it with another clean rag.

Once the finish was applied, I put the original hardware back in place and love the way the brass finish shines against the navy.

After that, it was ready to go to the shop! In my very pregnant, minimal efforts, I bring you my sideboard…. on the outside wall of the shop, totally unstaged.Coastal Blue SideboardHowever, I think it’s pretty enough to stand alone. Sometimes less is more.

Hopefully this guy finds  his new home at our sale April 20-22.  With that, here’s to a wonderful week ahead!  Cheers!

Thank you, Shelley! I am glad you like it on its own because staging it was just not gonna happen. 😉

It’s definitely one of my favorite blue paint colors too. It just doesn’t disappoint and looks beautiful on this dresser too. Love it
