I am Going to FALL IN LOVE with Our Playroom!

September 22, 2014 by Cassie 85 Comments

PinterestFacebookTwitter

Happy Monday!  Hope you all had an awesome weekend kicking off the official Fall season!  With the start of Fall, I am kicking off a collaboration with 18 other DIY bloggers- we are going to FALL IN LOVE with spaces in our homes that need a little TLC to make them shine!

Fall-in-Love-graphicPin
Just check out this amazing line up of bloggers, all making over one space in their homes!

I’ve chosen to make over our playroom.  It’s always been sort of half baked, like many of my ideas, frankly.  This space is in our basement, and is a large finished space, perfect for lounging kiddos.  I started back in 2012 to give it a vintage map inspired look….

playroommapwallPin

… and then it just sort of stagnated.  And The maps were only temporary and the kids would knock them off the walls and I started to twitch and break out in hives.  So I just basically avoided going into this space as much as possible.   But its time has come, and I have a plan.  Before I show you the plan, let me show you where we are really starting…

And that would be Emmy, begrudgingly helping me clean up and sort through toys. 😉

And now, let me show you the plan, which is inspired by our love of fantasy books and movies, in particular Lemony Snickets, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, The Hobbit, and more!

playroom collagePin

So these are the basic elements of our playroom!  And if it comes out as planned, I will certainly fall in love and might take over… the kids will have to find another space.

Here are the product sources clockwise from top left: Avalon Wallpaper Mural, Vintage Found Lockers (which may or may not stay aqua) Sputnik Light Fixture , Capiz Pendant, The Mandatory Blogger Pillow , Amber Velvet Pillows, Kaia Kilim Rug, Animal Prints, and Artwork Created by Me.

As you saw last week, I got a teensy jump start with a couple items from World Market.  And everything else you see has already been delivered to my house as well, so now it’s just pure execution from here!  Wish me luck!

I’m giddy over that wall mural!!! So when I saw the photo that had Emmy in it my eye went directly to the pink cowgirl hat on the floor. I, no joke, have 14 of those damn things left over from Izzy’s cowgirl birthday party. I always try to get rid of them but then they always make it back into the playroom and all over the floor. They breed.

Truly excited that more blogs are doing this, but appalled to see you getting the credit for this stolen idea!

I am really sorry you think that- that was not my intention at all! I approached some friends because I needed a swift kick in the butt to get my playroom going. This was this past summer when we were all too busy, so we decided to do it in the Fall, and when I looked at my calendar those were the dates that just worked the best- we were trying to shoot for a Fall kick off right at the start of Fall, and then end it in between Halloween and Thanksgiving, plenty of time before we had holiday posts going live. So that’s just the way the cards happened to fall. I hope you understand that was never my intention, nor did I even give it a thought (because it was so far from my mind and not being copied). I always love the ORC and love to follow along, but I didn’t even think about it.

Wow, ACeBaker, you are being more than a little harsh and also pretty presumptuous. If you have ever read Cassie’s blog, you’d know she’s one of the most creative and out of the box folks out there. And regardless of that, completing and decorating a room with other bloggers is hardly revolutionary. No one owns that idea and no one is “stealing” that idea. Give me a break. And also, get off your high horse. It’s not a flattering view from down here.

    Cassie,

Thanks so much for your quick reply! I really am delighted to see this and it prompted me to download the feedly app so I don’t miss any of these blogs or the ORC. It was just odd to see the language used by a lot of the bloggers (as though this was a totally novel idea!)

My tone was more negative than I intended, I really appreciate your thoughtful reply.

@kim So ironic! Of all the blogs on this link-up yours is the only one I’ve regularly read in the past. Quite the tone you have yourself, ha!

I apologize if I upset you. But, honestly, you were unkind, presumptuous and just plain rude in your first comment to Cassie. If you read my blog at all, then you know me well enough to know that I say what I think and am fiercely loyal to my friends. And i don’t respond well to people being bullied. That’s exactly what I feel like is happening in this case.

Ok , then, Kim. My comment on your friends blog obviously hit a nerve. I’m not a bully, but I did have a criticism of what is happening here, which she addressed in her comment. You are escalating a conversation into an argument, which wasn’t my intention.

If you can’t see that I have a valid concern, that’s concerning. The language used by some of the bloggers doing this is very misleading. I get that there’s nothing new in this world to a point, but I firmly believe in giving credit were credit is due. Using someone else’s idea can be a great way to pay a compliment ( if you credit them) or a great way to show poor professionalism/burn bridges (if you run with it as though you came up with it independently). I appreciate that Cassie is contacting one of the bloggers that has done this before to clear the air.

Noted. I would never disagree in giving credit where it’s due, which I think you would see from most all of us working on this project. And I certainly don’t want to fight with you, but I would also encourage everyone to be kind and come from a place of grace instead of immediately jumping to saying someone stole something. That’s hurtful. You did hit a nerve for me, and I apologize if I jumped into defensive mode too quickly.
