Grateful Today and Some Prayers Please

July 25, 2011 by Cassie 32 Comments

Today, I am grateful for so many things.  And today, I am asking for you to please keep a friend of mine in your thoughts and prayers.

I am grateful that we survived a 9 hr car ride home yesterday with no arguments or snags.

I am grateful that we received an offer on our house today, even if it is not quite where we need it to be.  It’s a start.

I am grateful today that VBS at our church started, and Sawyer’s girlfriend from his kindergarten class happens to be there.  So cute.

I am grateful that I won a giveaway at The Mustard Ceiling for an awesome Plum Street Prints poster, and I chose this one for Emmy’s room… (but have yet to hang due to being in limbo with the house)

And if you haven’t yet visited Elizabeth’s blog, you need to so you can see such awesome things as this laundry room…

I am grateful to Andi who allowed me to barter with her.  I traded this desk for 4 poufs for my kids rooms.  Aren’t they adorable (there are two of each!)

I am grateful to Rene who knew my love of owls and sent me this adorable glass paperweight!

I am grateful to my friend Heather, who is in need of your prayers right now.  Heather and I met over 4 years ago, shortly after I moved to Maryland.  Emmy was 3 months and Sawyer was 20 months when we met.  Her son Andrew was a month younger than Sawyer, and her daughter Grace was a couple years older.  We shared much in common- a love for spinning, sewing, decorating, and crafting.  She and I don’t get to see each other a lot, but we are always there for each other.  Emmy suffered from ITP 3  1/2 years ago, and it was a very scary time for me, even though it was short lived.  Heather was the friend who was there for me, watched Sawyer so I could take Emmy to the hospital to check her platelet counts, and just let me cry or talk.  She was so strong for me.  She spent a couple years after that trying to get pregnant a third time, and finally after treatments was blessed in January of 2010 with Cora, the sweetest and happiest little girl  Cora is currently in the hospital, I learned while I was away this weekend.  Cora’s platelets were low, just as Emmy’s had been.  But it is not ITP, and it is not leukemia.  At this point in time, it looks like it could be a diagnosis of Aplastic Anemia, which would require a bone marrow donation from a matching sibling.  I am asking all of you to please just pray for Cora and her family.  And at Heather’s request, I am urging anyone who is able to be a blood donor.
Lastly, I am grateful to all of you.  I know your prayers are what helped Juliet rid her body of leukemia.  I know that again, your positive prayers and thoughts will help Cora.

At least you have showings of your home! Hope that works out for you. We have been on the market several weeks and nothing. Not even a showing! Frustrating and stressful! Praying God’s guidance be with you on your journey!

I will say a prayer for Cora and her family. Scary times:. My daughter had ITP, too. Her platlets were 4,000 when we found out (she was 18 months). I could not have made it through that time without prayers and support (especially for my parents who dropped everything to come care for her). I know your friend appreciates your support.

I will keep sweet little Cora and her family in my thoughts and prayers. A nice post on gratitude, Cassie. I started a little ritual many years ago where I keep a little jouranl next to my bed. Before getting out of bed each morning I write down 10 things I am grateful for in my life. Life is precious. I hope tings are going well with the house! Crossing my fingers for you!

Huge prayers headed her way!! I cannot imagine anything worse than a sick child. I don’t know if this will be helpful, but some dear friends of our family went through Aplastic Anemia with their son ~ their caringbridge page is http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joekennedy
Sometimes it helps to know how others have coped, made treatment decisions, etc. Joe is now thriving & healthy!!

OMG…this poor little girl and her family. Up until about 3 months ago I had never even heard of this. One of Reece’s friends was recently diagnosed with that. It was an exhausting summer for them and a bit scary, but he is doing well and coming back to school in September. I hope/know Cora will have the same success and get through this. Thoughts are with them!

    Take care,
    Lisa

Thanks for sharing about your friend’s daughter, I’ll keep her in my prayers. My daughter is at VBS this week also, for the very first time! So while I’ve been laying wide awake at night worrying about her first week of “school” I’ve spent lots of time relecting about how small and fragile, but big and strong our little ones can be. Keep us posted, and keep the good house news coming, I hope the next few offers are closer to where you want them to be!
