Guest Bath Updates

It has been a while (two years to be exact) since I’ve shared any pictures of the guest bathroom, but that’s because nothing had changed since its last update.  When I last shared it I had used some hematite looking knobs that I had on hand…. and ya know what?  They just were not working for me!  It needed some new jewelry!  I wanted to lighten up the feel and give it a modern cottage look.  And that led me to think it needed some new artwork, and the shelf that was there needed to come down because I was afraid the anchors weren’t holding.  These were all quick and easy changes, so I took care of them right away!
Here is a reminder of where we originally started over two years ago….
And here’s where we were two years ago after its first update….

And here we are today! (FYI, the lighting is a challenge with photography in this bathroom, so I apologize for the slight yellow tint!)

What a diference the new glass knobs make!  D. Lawless Hardware provided me with these new glass knobs.   I love their chunkiness- they are nice and solid and easy to handle, not as delicate as other glass knobs.  I love how pretty they look paired with the vanity, painted in tidewater by Sherwin Williams.

I’ve added a couple of new pieces of art created by me!  I recently went to a wine and canvas class with a friend; the painting scheduled was “girl with umbrella.”  Well, here you can see my girl with umbrella.

Above the toilet where the shelf used to be, I painted white hand lettering onto my old chalkboard.  It reads, “If you’re fond of sand dunes, and salty air.”  I chose the lyrics from the song “At the River” by Groove Armada, but it’s actually a sampling they took from an older song, “Old Cape Cod.”  “At the River” is just one of those songs I can listen to and it calms me down, and reminds me of the beach, so I thought it would be perfect for this bathroom, with its octopus shower curtain.

This art is far from perfect, but it’s perfect for me.  You can also see the set of bottles, which were a gifr from my parents, and a large seashell I found at a thrift shop. I used gilding wax to gild the inside.

Next to the toilet I added a vintage crate on its side to store magazines.  Spare toilet paper is stored in the fitting “toiletries” vintage look tin.

And just to remind you, here is the shower curtain that was my original jumping off point two years ago.  I still love it!

And one more thing I want to revisit, my first ever experience with leafing was when I silver leafed this mirror frame from Mirror Mate.  I am still in love with it and think it adds the perfect touch of shine to the room.

Well, that’s all for now for the bathroom!  I don’t know about you, but I am a creature who loves to change things…. you may have noticed.  We’ve been in this house 2 1/2 years, and I’ve almost made over each room.  Now I’ve gotten to the point where I begin to change them around again.  I’ve already changed up the guest room, the living room is in progress (update coming Friday!), Emmy’s room has changed, and the master bedroom is even going to get a little mini revamp!  What about you?  Do you like to change things around, or do you do a room once and call it a day?

It looks great! Love the new knobs and your chalkboard artwork is perfect. I LOVE your girl with an unmbrella painting. I think it is wonderful Cassie. Yes, change is what we do over here, too. It keeps us on our toes and things more interesting! Sometimes just changing out a few little items is the best!
