Last week I told you all about the Hometalk Hometown Hustle Sweet Clover and Silk & Burlap are putting on for blogger this Saturday. (If you are interested and would like to attend, click here for details). We have 6 amazing shops participating in the event, and I introduced two last week. Today I want to share with you two more local fashion gems, The Velvet Lounge, and Citizen Frederick.
One of the things that I absolutely adore about Frederick is the variety of shops; the downtown area features an eclectic mix of fashion and home, beauty, gourmet, and more! It is not touristy as some historic areas can be, but more of a diverse and artistic place! That’s why I have pride in it and want to share it with you!
The Velvet Lounge is one of my personal favorite shops. Last year I purchased one of my favorite fox sweatshirts there! I love their Fall clothes and accessories sooooo much! Here is what April says about her shop!
“Velvet Lounge has been a fashion destination in Downtown Frederick for over 15 years. The boutique carries popular brands such as Free People, Splendid, Wildfox, Frye, Toms, House of Harlow, Rebecca Minkoff and more. The shop has been named “Best of Frederick” by Washingtonian Magazine and featured on popular blogs such as Refinery 29.”
You had to know I would love any shop that uses a large deer in its display, right? And here’s a peek at their exterior…
Pretty dreamy looking fashion destination, right? I hope you will check out this shop and be sure to like them on facebook, too!
Citizen Frederick is newer on the scene and I just love their concept. This store carries amazing menswear and accessories, but this is not your typical menswear- it’s edgier and on trend. I can’t wait to take Chris shopping here! And their logo is pretty fab, too….
Here is what Antonio has to say about Citizen….
“We are now 6 months and 23 days into the opening of our men’s lifestyle store in historic downtown Frederick. My husband is a lawyer turned news analyst/editor, and I am a construction/design professional. We both have an eye for design, and are inspired by what’s going on both locally and globally. We are both from small rural areas (the middle of Kansas, and the mountains of Utah), and Frederick immediately reminded us of home. We fell in love with the historic downtown, burgeoning food scene, untapped design opportunities, and its proximity to DC…hence we decided to move here 2 years ago.
We saw a hole in its menswear market, and immediately jumped at the opportunity. Our showroom is a manageable 500 square feet, and we’ve carefully turned into a well-curated showroom which reflects our style. There’s a rustic appeal to it, but maintains a minimalistic approach and urban sensibility. Our goal is to provide the essentials to a modern man and help him on his mission.
Our approach to sourcing product is to bring in locally made product first, followed by American-made goods, and finally filling in the gaps with imported brands.
Our locally made brands include:
- The Old Colony Co.
- Dana Young Jewelry
- Pipers Fine Writing + Men’s Essentials
- Treason Toting Co.
- Brothers Rich
- Rite Rustic Leather Goods
- Gitli Goods
We also carry Penfield USA, Grayers, Unbranded Brand Denim, 3sixteen Denim, Tank Farm Clothing, Iron and Resin, Thorogood Boots, Stock & Barrel Leather Goods, Imperial Barber Products and much more!
Currently, we are in the process of organizing an American-made market for the well-made man and woman at Volt. The event is scheduled to occur on October 25th. The link to the site is www.theblueridgemarket.com”
Doesn’t this shop’s concept sound phenomenal!?!? I love their local-mindedness and style! Chris and I are headed out for date night Saturday after the event, and I want to introduce him to Citizen, and perhaps get him this tee.
And if you want to see more about this shop, watch the video below- you will get a real feel for it!
Shops like these are with give me hometown pride! I love Frederick and look forward to sharing it with you!
