Hypothetical House #2

So the other day I posted a hypothetical housing question to you, my awesome readers!  And BOY did you guys all come through with your thoughts and opinions, and it was a huge help to me.  I was already leaning in one direction internally, but I was afraid I was being selfish and basing it more on what  wanted than on what would be best for my family.  We headed out yesterday to visit house number 2 again, a quaint cape cod style house up on a big hill.  It feeds into an excellent school district, which was top on my list.  It sits on 1.7 acres, which may not be much to some of you, but is 10 times the land we had at our last home.  It is on a quiet cul de sac street with about 20 houses.  It has a beautiful tree lined driveway, a wrap around porch, a roomy detached garage with a huge studio above the garage.  There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, wood floors downstairs and in the hall upstairs, a fireplace, and beautiful views out the windows of trees in the valley which I imagine will be beautiful in the fall.   The kitchen is um, original.  It is dated and very ugly, so we talked about the cost of updating the kitchen.  The bathrooms are just as bad, but they are usable for now.  We talked and talked, spending a total of an hour at the house thinking and talking.  Eventually we made an offer.  We were with friends last night when we found out we GOT THE HOUSE!!!!!!  We are under contract!  So assuming all goes well with inspections, we will be closing on 9/26, and I will be able to share more pictures with you.  But for now, I wanted to share a picture of the exterior.  Not my colors, but we can change that eventually.  And I love it anyhow!

Congratulations, I hope it all works out for you. I don’t get the school district part that a lot of people in the US talk about, but I’m jealous about the 2+ acres for sure. As for the kitchen maybe it’s better to live with ugly for now and change to the way you want it later, than pay premium dollars at signing for an upgraded kitchen that isn’t your style. You will make it your home in no time.
