If You Send a Girl a Catalog

By now most of you know who my friend Heather is and all about her daughter Cora.  Aside from doctor’s appointments, Cora is still homebound and will be until September when they are 1 year past bone marrow transplant.  This means that Heather is home with her as well.  all.  the.  time.  Well, you know when you sit staring at the same walls, you get the itch to change things.  I went there a couple weeks ago to help Heather choose colors as she is working on a bunch of rooms and home projects.  She wrote this the other day and sent it to me and I asked her for permission to publish.  Because I think we can all relate. 🙂  She told me Cora is obsessed with “If You Give a Mouse a Pancake” which is where this stemmed from.

If You Send a Girl a Catalog
by Heather Dalik

If you send a girl a catalog, she will see a shower curtain that she loves.
Seeing the shower curtain will remind her that she needs new bathroom rugs.

While she waits for the shower curtain to be delivered, she will realize the bathroom needs a fresh coat of paint.

She will paint the bathroom.
Once the bathroom is painted, she will stand back and look at it.
Looking at the bathroom will remind her that the doors, baseboards and cabinets also need a fresh coat of paint.
While she is waiting for the paint to dry, she will go to Macys to buy new towels.
After picking out towels the helpful salesgirl will tell her that if she applies for a Macy’s credit card, she can save 20%. So, she applies.
While waiting for the application, she will see bathroom rugs.  This will remind her that she needs new bathroom rugs. She picks out rugs too and puts them on the new Macy’s credit card.
Once back home, she will start to put the bathroom back together.  After washing the curtains, she will remember that they need alterations.
She will stay up all night altering the curtains.
While taking a shower in her beautiful new bathroom the next day, the girl will look down and notice the tile grout is black and recalls that it used to be white.  Seeing, the dirty grout will remind her of a cleaning tip she found on Pinterest. Logging into Pinterest, well… we all know what happens when you log into pinterest.  Several hours later, she will clean and reseal the grout.
Standing back to admire her work, she will remember the magazine rack she found on the curb.  Chances are if she fills it with magazines and catalogs, there will be a new project to go with it.

Love that book and the poem even more…isn’t it the darn truth! Next time my husband says something about projects, I am going to tell him – if you give a girl a paintbrush!

I love those books! And that story is adorable that Heather wrote! I am the exact same way… I’m always doing 10 different things because one project reminds me of another. I clean my house this way too and it drives my husband crazy. He just can’t understand why I don’t focus on one room at a time! Impossible!!!

    Truthful and honest…

    Here’s mine book…

If you give a mom a headache, she’s probably going to want some tylenol. When you get her the tylenol, she’s going to need some water… When you give her the water, she’s probably going to notice that your fingernails are dirty…

That’s all I got so far.

    hehehe….

We are very fond f the “Mouse and Cookie” book in our home too!

i can totally relate. A few days ago I decided to order diapers online, which led to ordering a book, then more books, then earrings, then a tray for the living room… Once you open up that Pandora’s box it’s hard to close the lid!
