I’ll Take a Side(board) of Cranberry Sauce, Please!

First off, Happy Halloween!  Hope you all had a wonderful day.  My husband took the kids with another dad to go trick-or-treating, so I stayed home to dole out candy.  But I didn’t let my kiddos leave without a picture of a proud mommy and her superheroes!  And by the way, the superheroes are sporting outfits created by my mom, who is master of the sewing machine universe!

It’s been a fun and productive weekend here.  I finished two pieces, but am going to show you one tonight since I need to save something to show you at POWW.  Last week I found this French Provincial style triple dresser or sideboard at the Salvation Army.

I had seen it the week before but the tag was gone so I assumed it was sold.  When it was still there, I decided to ask and the manager told me I could have it for $40.  SOLD!
I brought it home and had a bazillion ideas whirring through my brain… bright yellow with painted handles, mustard yellow and distressed, royal blue with white handles, gray/white distressed with teal handles, and the list goes on. Sawyer suggested I paint it green on the inside, red all over, and blue handles with yellow on the back.  Um, thanks for the suggestions son.  I didn’t take all of his ideas, but clearly I have a designer in the making, and I decided to try out a new red mistint Benjamin Mooew Aura paint.  It’s a cranberry hued red and went on nicely in just two coats.  Once it dried, I distressed it by hand, and went over the piece with Minwax Provincial Stain.  I was thrilled with how it came out, and called Sawyer to see, since he had picked the red.  I thought he would be happy, but he inspected it, opened the drawers, and said, “It’s supposed to be green inside.” Then he inspected the back and asked about the yellow…. So maybe he wasn’t too happy.  But I am hoping someone else loves it and wants it in their home!

You couldn’t buy something like that for under $200 here in Oz (and I’m talking ‘before’). Imagine how much it would be worth now that it’s so gorgeous!

LOVE the red!!! I just painted my coffee table heritage red and I LOVE it, but I am going to distess it which makes me distressed (lol) because I have never dne that before, but I am going to go for it!

Wish I could find a piece like that…I have been looking and looking!

It is REALLY really pretty! I’m lovin’ the red! Great job. Your little ones are adorable too. When I was pregnant with my daughter, if she was going to be a boy, her name was going to be Sawyer. I love that name. She turned out to be a girl and we named her Hayden. Sorry for the randomness, ha ha. Hope you had a great Halloween.
