In Case You Missed it: A Draper Dresser Redo

This is a guest post that I did for Nicole at Home for Hire a couple weeks ago.  I am sharing it today because I am busy getting the kids packed for their trip to Gram Pam and Louie’s, and getting myself packed for Haven!  So excited!!!!
I also want to extend a huge thank you to all who visited the Stylish Patina barn this weekend and made our first sale there a huge success!  Sarah worked there yesterday and worked some magic and sold my big huge dresser for me, so thank you, Sarah!

I am also going to apologize in advance…. I will most likely not be around this week visiting blogs, commenting, etc.  I may not even be able to reply to comments.  By now, you all know that is so against what I believe in, but I just do not know if there will be time.  I have a feeling I will come home Sunday and hit “mark all as read” when I see my google reader with 8,768,435 unread posts in it. 🙂  And two days after I return home a friend is coming to town for a few days.  I have not seen her in over a year, so again, I may be a little absent during that time.

And now for the guest post you might have missed…
Hello Home for Hire friends!  I am Cassie from Primitive and Proper and I am so excited to be filling in for Nicole while she is away!  Nicole and I go way back when it comes to blogging years (they are sort of like dog years, you know).  Nicole is so crafty and talented, and her shop is always full of cuteness!

If I remember correctly we originally bonded over furniture. 🙂  I am always working on furniture, so I thought it would be fun to share a redo with you today.  A loooong time ago, I found this Dorothy Draper knockoff dresser for a song on craiglist.  This is what it looked like at time of purchase…

I gave it a makeover to fit it into our home back then… 2 years ago!  I painted it white with gray accents and changed the hardware.
Well, then last fall we moved into our current home (which we LOVE and will be in for  along time to come!), and it didn’t have a place in this home.  I wanted to give it a more fun makevoer so I got to work again.  I sanded as much of the paint off as possible, and I painted it with Sherwin Williams watery.  I then used Martha Stewart’s metallic gold paint in the details, and gave it new brass ring pulls to glam it up a little bit.  I gave it a coat of polycrylic to finish it off, and here it is now! (And it has since gone to a new home with a lovely young lady).

I think this incarnation is its best so far!  What do you think?
Nicole, thank you so much for having me here today!  I hope you are enjoying yourself and we will see you when you return! 🙂

So glad I found your blog! I actually visited the barn this weekend for the first time and remember your booth, loved it! I didn’t come away with anything big (two pink coasters is all I bought there) but I will most definitely be back next month!

I’m thinking of not even posting anything else this week. If you can’t comment on it, them I shall be lost.

No, really. Just about everyone that I know is going…well except Janel, and Jill, and Bella… and maybe, Bliss? Hmmm… Ok. NOT everyone I know is going…

If I don’t talk to you, have fun! And remind everyone how awesome I am…hahaha… I should have send an{almost} life-size picture of me so you could snap a photo of me with everybody… shoot.

Love that colour Cassie, I have never seen a dresser like that. So cute that you keep reinventing it, Ihave only ever done that once, when something didn’t sell.

Have a wonderful time at Haven, how awesome! And gosh girl, don’t worry about not replying, you have a life remember, and it is summer for you guys!

I love the gold accents…I would have bought that from you in a second. Have a blast at Haven. I guess we can forgive you from not replying to comments. I think you’re allowed a free pass after replying consistently to 8 bazillion comments. 🙂 Wish I could go to Haven and meet you and all my other favorite ladies in person.

Have a great time at Haven! Don’t worry about the comments. They’ll all be here when you get back. And if it helps, feel free to just not reply to mine. I know what you believe in, but I don’t want you to feel bogged down and it will NOT hurt my feelings.

This post reminds me that I need to get to making over the Draper chest we’ve had for years and years. It’s all white right now. The drawer-fronts are wood, but the top and sides are laminate. I’ve been thinking (oh, for about a year or more) about covering the top and sides with wallpaper or gift wrap or something like that, and then painting the drawer fronts. And I need new hardware — ring pulls like you have — because the cheesy little knobs on it right now just won’t do. Now … if I could only find just the right paper to cover it!
