I’ve Got the Guest Bedroom Blues…

I was so excited about my plan for the guest bedroom!  SO excited!  It needed a queen bed as Chris and I were going to use our old mattress set in there and get a new set for us.  As luck should have it, a friend had a beautiful French provinical bed that she thought was a queen as it was too big for her daughter’s full mattress.  (You see where this is going, right?)  Here is the bed….

And frankly, it looked smaller than a queen to me, but I just kept on trucking on because I was SO darn excited!  The room is drawing its color scheme from the awesome owl painting my friend Andi made me for my birthday- navy blue, white, gray, and browns and golds.
I bought a can of Annie Sloan’s chalk paint in Napoleonic blue (so at this point I have invested $120 in this bed after purchasing said paint).  Its a  gorgeous dark blue.  I sanded the bed lightly and gave it three coats of Napoleonic Blue and then waxed it with Briwax.
Yesterday all the new mattresses arrived (did I mention Emmy got a  new bed, too?  I will share that soon!)  So while Chris was at work, I switched out our mattress set, put Emmy’s on her new bed, moved Emmy’s old one to Sawyer’s room where he now has two twin beds.  Then I waited anxiously all day for Chris to get home for the crowning moment where we could put the old queen set in the guest room (located down a flight of stairs from our room which is why I didn’t do it yet myself!).  I was so excited to get it in there and make up the bed with fluffy white bedding!  It was going to look amazing.  We carried down the boxspring, and low and behold, it was way to big.  There was no way it was going to fit on that bed.  So the bed will now be for sale, and I will now be heartbroken, thankyouverymuch.  Well, I can’t leave you hanging so I am going to show you the bed anyhow, in place.  You can see how excited I was- I even hung my sunburst mirror and had the nightstands all ready.

That last picture shows the color most accurately.  Wouldn’t it have looked awesome with fluffy white bedding?  Sniff sniff.  So back to the drawing board and my mother in law will be here in 3 weeks to stay in that room to help me out after Sawyer’s adnoids and tonsils are removed.  Hope I can find something fast!

DON’T SELL IT!!! You can get converter bed frames that take a full to a queen for like $40… http://www.bedframes.net/products/Full-To-Queen-Converter-Rails.html

I was thinking about converting my full in the guest room to queen and I found that link.

All my kids mattresses came from there and they are excellent mattresses for a fraction of the price. If you are dead set on a queen size bed definitely look into a converter set! xoxo,

Really pretty! Have you considered a custom mattress? I’ve been down that road twice before. They’re not outrageously expensive. I had a Chinese bed growing up that was a tad smaller than a queen, and both my daughters have 3/4 size beds. Not sure why I’m so drawn toward non-standard!

I hope it sells fast if you keep on that road. I’m sure it will since it’s so lovely.

It’s beautiful, Cassie! I have a bed that belonged to my great-grandmother in my guest room and the same situation…it was too small for the queen mattress. We did have some extenders added on by a woodworker to turn it into a queen. Maybe your husband can do this? Gorgeous blue! The owl painting looks so fun in their!

What a bum-mer! Can’t you, like, get a stretcher and crank it up and maybe stretch it out so that bed will fit? Maybe a hydraulic jack would do it…well, that would probably be a bit too drastic… I say, buy a new mattress, cuz they are easier to find than an AWESOME NEW ABUSSON BLUE HANDPAINTED BED! Oh, that would cost some money, though…

Aw, I’m so sorry the bed didn’t work out! It would have been so fun with fluffy white bedding. You’ll find the perfect piece, and hopefully you have enough of the chalk paint leftover! My daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed and once she recovered was a totally different kid. She could finally breathe at night without pausing for long periods (scary) and could hear well for the first time in years. Good luck!

Would you consider attaching the headboard & footboard to a queen sized metal bed frame? That is what we’ve done in our son’s room and no one would ever know ~ the bedding covers up the corners & its such a teensy difference anyhow! Sure would save you a lot of work, and the bed is gorgeous!
