*This post, Keeping Cool in a Cape Cod with Lamps Plus, is in collaboration with Lamps plus.

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  We were highly productive as we have still so much to get done around this house.  I’ve mentioned before that we’re building a chicken coop, and we’re getting close, but hit some glitches with the roof.  It was also blazing hot on Saturday so we weren’t able to work outside and had to put it all off until Sunday.  Chris may have cussed and may have said, “Next time I will have you watch the youtube so that the smarter one of us has seen it.”  (Read that in a sarcastic tone, if you will).  But nonetheless, we are getting close, and hope to make it to a local chicken swap later this month.  Emmy and I also worked on the dollhouse as that is another project close to completion.  Today I wanted to talk to you about something much more functional and much more necessary, especially if you live in a Cape Cod style home like we do.Cape Cod with Boho Style Wrap Around Porch

I have always loved a Cape.. I don’t know why but they are so charming and cozy feeling.  When we first saw this house, I feel in love despite all of the updating it needed.  I knew when I saw the style, the porch, and the views, that this was the house that one day my kids would look back on fondly. For those who have ever lived in a Cape Cod, you understand that they do come with their own dilemmas when it comes to consistent temperatures.  Because of the slope and lack of attic, the sun beats down on our roof in the summer and the upstairs (where the master bedroom and kids bedrooms are located) becomes much more stifling than the rest of the house.  For the past 4 1/2 years we have lived with the original fans.  They were not only atrocious, but they did’t function so well after all these years.

This photo from Sawyer’s room shows you what we were working with… Eeeeew, right?Gray Moroccan Rug in Tween BedromThe best part was that early on last summer the master bedroom fixture had started rocking when it was turned on.  After we noticed that we used it very sparingly on low because we were afraid it would otherwise propel itself from the ceiling and kill us in our sleep.

We’ve since updated both Sawyer’s fixture (post coming!) as well as our own bedroom fixture with the Lamps Plus Casa Elite in oil rubbed bronze.  It’s got a sleek shape and much more modern feel.lamps plus casa vieja casa elite

You’ve already seen it in my bedroom….Lamps Plus Ceiling Fan in Modern Boho Master BedroomAnd I can’t wait to share with you the difference it has made in Sawyer’s room.  Not only does it look a kajillion times better, but the function is a kajillion times better!  First of all, we no longer live in fear of our ceiling fan killing us in the night, but it also operates quietly and smoothly, and keeps us cool.  Just the other night it was 75 degrees as the low, and the fan kept us resting peacefully.

In Emmy’s room, we also wanted to update her fan.  Her old fixture had a glass globe that no longer stayed in place when the fan was on, so for the longest time she had a fan with a light bulb sticking out.  I always crop it out of her bedroom photos because it is just that embarrassing.  She also complains of being hot and that her fan isn’t working as it should.  She is into design, so I let her peruse the Lamps Plus website with me and she chose the Casa Vieja Palm Fan.  It’s funky and fresh and so perfect for her bedroom.lamps plus white fanDon’t you think she made a fine choice?  Here’s her bedroom as a little refresher, with a slight hint of her old fan at the top of the photo.  Imagine those are big white palm leaves… epic!Girls room in pink black and whiteWe are so grateful to head into this summer in a much cooler Cape Cod.  If you are looking for an affordable and stylish ceiling fan fixture, head on over to Lamps Plus! Stay cool!

*I received ceiling fans for our bedrooms, but was not otherwise compensated and all opinions are my own.

You a preaching too the choir, I have so many eeeeew ceiling fans in my rental I don’t know where I’ll put them all if I change them out for myself. I’ve got one in the attic now but I’d love them all to go. Lots of great modern choices like these out there now.

I misread this at first as “keeping cool in Cape Cod” and got all excited that we were both on cape cod at the same time. But it’s good to keep cool in A cape cod if you can’t actually go to cape cod. Love Emmy’s fan!

I’d personally rather have pretty light fixtures in the bedrooms, but ceiling fans are necessary in our home too since we have no A/C (and So Cal summers are pretty warm). I love the sleek lines of your new bedroom fan, and Emmy’s fan is so fun!

That palm leaf fan is SO CUTE! Ceiling fans are a necessity for us as well, and I’m currently eyeing this one at Lamps Plus for our living room (http://www.lampsplus.com/products/52-inch-minka-aire-light-wave-distressed-koa-ceiling-fan__4n706.html)!
